DIRTCAR: Mat Williamson Scores Win On Night One Of World Finals At Charlotte

August 5, 2013- There may not be any driver in this area that is happy to see the month of August more than Dylan Evoy and his Evoy Racing team.

After a rather frustrating month of July as they fight some handling issues with their new car, Evoy is hopeful that the trend from the past few seasons of lighting up the headlines during the month of August continues again this year.  They started of the month with events at Mohawk International Raceway and Brockville Speedway this past weekend.

At Mohawk Raceway, Evoy began the night with a second place finish in his qualifying heat race after charging through the field from his ninth place starting position.  In the 20 lap main event, Dylan rolled off the starting grid from the 13th position and quickly moved forward.  The first caution came on lap seven and by then Evoy had advanced to third place and was looking strong.  Over the next few laps, the handling on the car started to dissipate and fell outside the top five by lap 15.  Dylan crossed the line with a disappointing seventh place finish.

“We started off really good and the car was fast early in the race, but after that first caution, the handling just went away on us.  It was another tough night in the point standings for us, but there are still a few weeks left and we are determined to get back on track”, says Evoy after the race.

Evoy returned to Brockville Speedway on Saturday night looking to get his first win of the season at his hometown track. The night started off with the feature that was postponed from last Saturday night.

Dylan started from the 12th position and was up to sixth by lap six.  At the halfway point of the race, he had worked his way inside the top five but once again fell back to seventh as the final laps counted down.  In his qualifying heat race, Dylan started fourth and finished second and returned to the pit area for some final adjustments in preparation for the 25 lap feature later in the evening.

Dylan started the race from 10th place and quickly moved forward again, moving into the top five after just a few laps.  By lap ten he was up to fourth and had second place as they completed the halfway point of the event.  With 15 laps completed on the scoreboard, Evoy made the move to the lead and never looked back, winning his first Brockville Speedway feature since September 1 of last year.

“It really feels good to get back to victory lane here at Brockville”, explains Evoy.  “It has been a tough season and hopefully we can finish the year strong here”.

Dylan’s stats over the past three seasons during the month of August have been phenomenal.  Dating back to the 2010 season, Evoy’s worst finish through 28 events has been an eighth place.  Over that period he has 12 feature wins and 27 top five finishes, including the results from this past weekend.

This coming weekend, Evoy will have a rare Friday night off as Mohawk International Raceway is closed in support of their local county fair.  He will return to action on Saturday night at Brockville Speedway looking to make it two wins in a row.

Evoy Racing would like to thank Ogilvie’s Auto & Fleet Service, Plooy’s Plumbing and Heating, 1000 Islands RV Centre, Renovators Inc., Napa Auto Parts Universal Supply Group, Genesis Racing Shocks, Fireball Performance Automatics, MIE Autobody and Collision, Linde, Canadian Tire, Wurth and NGK Spark Plugs. A special thanks also goes out to ‘Stick’ and ‘Big Block’ for their help and support.
