MAY 29, 2012 – This past week of racing is one that Danny O’Brien would like to forget. O’Brien piloted Mike Adderley’s car on Wednesday night at Can Am, and with a car spinning right in front of him in his qualifying heat, O’Brien had nowhere to escape, and had a couple of very hard impacts.
O’Brien walked away unscathed, but the car had serious damage. His weekend of racing continued with a 50 lap main event at Mohawk Raceway, and then back to Brockville Speedway on Saturday night.
Although he was still feeling a little sore from Wednesday night’s crash at Can Am, O’Brien was back in his own car on Friday at Mohawk International Raceway. He started out by winning his qualifying heat race, and would start the 50 lap Frenchie’s “Chevy Runs Deep” Series race from outside of the second row in fourth place. He moved to third on the initial start, and briefly took over the second position as they approached lap seven, but settled back into third as the race progressed. A flat right rear tire sent O’Brien to the pits on lap 35, and he would have to mount his charge from the rear of the field. In the final 15 laps, O’Brien was able to get back up to 13th.
“We had a strong car tonight”, but we just couldn’t do much after getting the flat”, explains O’Brien. “We were able to battle back some, but it certainly wasn’t the finish we were looking for”.
O’Brien rounded out his week of racing on Saturday night at Brockville Speedway. He started fourth in his qualifying heat, and took the lead before they completed lap two, and cruised to the victory. In the 30 lap main event, Danny started on the inside of the seventh row in 13th place. It was a struggle moving through the field, and by the halfway point, O’Brien and moved up to ninth place. In the last half of the race, O’Brien would work his way to a sixth place finish.
This coming weekend, O’Brien will be back at Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night, and Brockville Speedway on Saturday.
Danny O’Brien would like to thank 1000 Islands RV Centre, Pat’s Rad, BOB FM, Ponte Bros. Masonry, Morrison Racing Engines, Snap-On Adam Way, Wurth, Bicknell Racing Products, and Integra Racing Shocks for their support going into the 2012 season.
