PICTON, Ont. – Veteran Brighton Speedway Canadian Modified driver Dan Ferguson is proud to introduce a new member to his 2014 race team. Kilmarnock Enterprise has partnered with Ferguson for its first venture in to motorsports advertising.
Kilmarnock Enterprise specializes in custom manufacturing and industrial service. They provide 24/7 services to customers across Ontario. The Canadian-owned company offers a multitude of services including maintenance, millwright, rigging, fabricating and welding, machining, and more. They have been located near Smiths Falls, Ont. since 1981 and opened their Trenton location in 2010.
Ferguson plans to welcome Kilmarnock Enterprise to dirt racing in Ontario with the most positive experience possible.
“It’s nice to get new people involved in the sport and show them different ways of advertising,” said Ferguson. “We want to help get their name out. That’s the goal.”
After finishing third in Canadian Modified points at Brighton last year, Ferguson made the decision to purchase a new car for 2014.
“The old leaf suspension car still has lots of life left in it,” laughed Ferguson, “but it was time to upgrade.”
With support from Kilmarnock and longtime sponsor Mark Heating and Cooling, Ferguson was able to purchase a new Rocket by Ruhlman chassis during the offseason. The team also invested in a new GM Crate engine.
The team’s car left the shop for the first time since it was decaled for opening night on Saturday. The Kilmarnock name on the car has already attracted a lot of interest from visitors at the shop and fans at the track.
“Even though the car just left the shop, its already drawn lots of questions,” said Ferguson.
Support from Kilmarnock will help the veteran return to his 2012 championship form, Ferguson said. But a new car will also pose a new challenge with its four-bar suspension system.
“The biggest challenges will be setting the car up and learning how to drive it,” explained Ferguson.
“It’s kind of a whole new ball game for us. Over the winter we have been able to align ourselves with a few local guys and a couple of people from the ‘States to help us. Hopefully we will be in the ball park to start the year and progressively get better as the season goes on.”
Chasing another division championship will provide a number of hurtles for the Picton –based driver. In addition to a new type of car, Ferguson will face steep competition on the racetrack. That makes it difficult for any driver to win, but Ferguson also said it means there is less time to strategize during a race.
“You kind of have to go right off the start, there’s no laying back,” said Ferguson. “If you don’t its too late by the time you get to the front.”
After a strong performance in Saturday’s opening night at Brighton, where he led eight laps, Ferguson will look to put Kilmarnock Enterprise in victory lane for the very first time early in the season.
“We hope to learn some things in the first few weeks,” said Ferguson, “and hopefully it will all come together quickly”.
