@57Sandercock •@BrightonSpdwy •TRENTON, Ont. – August 22, 2016 – Charlie Sandercock took the lead from Brandon Mowat in lapped traffic on lap 13 of the Pro Late Model feature at Brighton Speedway and never looked back on the way to his third Brighton win of the season and fifth overall on Saturday night.

“We were fighting carburetor issues the last two races at Brighton and that kind of hurt us in the points. The carburetor definitely wasn’t an issue on Saturday night and we were able to get the job done and even up the points,” Sandercock explained.

Sandercock started on the front row with Mowat for the 35-lap feature, which was the final round of the Triple Crown mini series. He pursued Mowat, never trailing more than a handful of car lengths in his Deerhaven/Newham Enterprise No.57, and was within striking distance when the pair reached lapped traffic 10 laps in to the race.

“He had a bit better car than we did towards the beginning. We were catching him as we caught the lapped cars and I got better luck with the lapped cars,” Sandercock said. “I saw a hole there, it was a really tight hole, but I knew I had to take it because it was the only opportunity I had at that point time.”

The latter half of the race saw four restarts over a five-lap period before Sandercock was able to pull away during a nine-lap green flag run to the checkered flag. The constant regroup didn’t hamper the Trenton driver’s momentum.

“I just made sure I stayed in my zone. I wasn’t going to give up the bottom on the restart with the track so heavy. The line to run the outside wasn’t quite there, so I just drove my line,” Sandercock said.

The bonus to Sandercock’s win was Andrew Hennessy’s third-place finish in Sandercock’s backup car. It was Hennessy’s first Late Model start in several years and acted as a tune-up for next Saturday when Hennessy will substitute for Sandercock.

“Andrew did an awesome job, so hat’s off to him. Hopefully he can do just as well if not better this weekend,” Sandercock said. “Two cars in the top three with zero damage, so we have nothing to complain about.”

Sandercock is confident with Hennessy, the current Canadian Modified point leader at Brighton, in the seat on August 27, he said.

“He’s been around the racetrack longer than I have. He’s raced Late Models and he has everything together for his Modified team, so I feel he can get the job done as good as anybody else,” Sandercock added.

The August 27 event is also the final Fan Appreciation night of the season. Event details are available at www.brightonspeedway.ca.
