PETERBOROUGH, ON (October 13, 2017)- Making his first appearance at the Autumn Colours Classic, Cameron McGlashan just missed qualifying for the Mini Stock main event.
After missing the first round of qualifying on Friday night, McGlashan made his first appearance on track of the weekend on Saturday. He would get spun on Lap 3 of his heat by a fellow competitor, but came back to place sixth.
With having missed the first day of action, he was one of the drivers forced to run the b-main on Saturday night. Starting mid-pack, he moved up to fourth in the early laps, though fell back a spot to fifth at Lap 6. It’d work to his advantage, as it’d enable him to miss an incident a lap later, gaining two spots back up to third. He would get a good restart, jumping up to second behind eventual race winner Rick Spencer-Walt before another caution.
He put together a solid challenge on the restart, but ultimately slowed with the motor going south in his mustang, forcing him to pit road. As a result, he’d be credited with a sixth-place finish, failing to qualify as they only took the top-four.
For McGlashan, it completes a great season that saw him take home the 2017 Signs of Innovation Mini Stock Sunset Speedway Championship. The success for McGlashan has been tremendous over the past three years, as this marks his second title in three years after winning the NWAAS Mighty Mini Division title in 2015.
Additionally, he finished ninth in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National standings. The NWAAS puts Sunset’s drivers up against competitors from 60 different tracks across North America, with each driver earning points based on their finishes at NASCAR-sanctioned tracks.
