@bos_speedway • BROCKVILLE, ON – Champions, comedy and good times were shared this past Saturday during the annual Brockville Ontario Speedway awards ceremony at the Brockville Memorial Center.
Drivers, crew members and fans were all treated to some laughs as Shawn Lawrence and Ryan Denee from the Forces Comedy Tour shared jokes and occasionally ribbed a few of the drivers during the ceremony making for some light hearted moments throughout the evening. In total five track champions were crowned in weekly divisions plus the Ogilvie’s Auto and Fleet Sportsman and 358 Modified Triple Crown Series.
Kingston’s Danny O’Brien was awarded for one of the most dominant performances in the 358 Modified division. O’Brien claimed his 11th track championship off the strength of eight feature wins including an incredible four-in-a-row during the month of July.
During an interview Danny commented, “We’re not changing anything this year, our team worked hard all last year and we had a lot of fun doing it too. When the fun is done, then I’m done, and I don’t plan on quitting anytime soon.”
Along with the track title Danny also claimed his second straight Ogilvie’s Auto and Fleet 358 Modified Triple Crown winning two of the three races in the series.
“I’ve missed these 50 lap races we used to have back in the day, Danny said after receiving the title from Mike Ogilvie, “it’s good to have that back here at Brockville and to have the support from Ogilvie’s makes it that much better too.”
In Sportsman, St. Andrews Ontario’s Shane Pecore was awarded his second straight track title. After a dominant run in 2013 that saw his win six races, the 2014 season was all about consistency as he claimed 14 Top 5’s and 15 Top 10’s as well as three victories.
Shane commented on his season saying “it was a bit of a struggle at the start but we figured some things out with the new car and we got on a roll mid season and won a lot of races.” Shane not only plans to try and defend his home track title but also plans to run the DirtCar Sportsman Series in 2015 as well, which starts at Fulton Speedway in April. “We’re really excited about the season opener, we always run well at Fulton, we’ll be busy but we plan on winning a lot of races this year.”
Along with the track title Shane collected his first ever Ogilvie’s Auto and Fleet Sportsman Triple Crown capping off another great season.
The Street Stock division saw Massena New York’s Kevin Fetterly Jr. take home top honors for the fifth consecutive year. Fetterly competed every week finishing no worse than seventh all year. After a dominant run in the division and some help from a few long time supporters, Fetterly said it’s time to move on.
“We got a little extra help for 2015 and we’re moving on to the Pro Stock class, I’m really excited and can’t wait. My wife and family support me and I can’t begin to thank them enough for everything they do.”
Fetterly’s final championship year included finishing in the Top 10 every week and a very impressive 14 Top 5’s as well.
Corbin Millar had a great 2014 season to take home his first track championship at “The BOS.”
After a struggle in the season opener he went on to have a great year with four victories, 9 Top 5’s and 11 Top 10 finishes.
Corbin said, “It feels good to win the championship, my dad and my crew worked hard all year to get it.”
Millar will be back again in 2015 to defend his crown.
The second year for the newly formed Rookie Sportsman class was successful again and David Andre claimed this year’s title.
Andre won five features in 2014, more than any driver in the short history of the class. Not only a regular at Brockville, he also ran full time at Cornwall which he said helped out a lot.
“I learned a lot this year and had a lot of fun doing it.” Andre will be back full time in the Sportsman class for the 2015 BOS season.
Next event is the BOS Fan Fest and CHEO Fundraiser April 18 from 10-2 at the Brockville Walmart. There will be a delicious BBQ, live music by Ambush and top drivers showing off their new race cars for the 2015 season and signing autographs for the fans. Its going to be a great day.
The 2015 season officially kicks off Saturday May 9 as Superior Cellular and Sound will present a full program plus the Vintage Modifieds will be on the card. Racing begins at 7pm.
