BRIGHTON, ON (May 17, 2019)- Persistent rains over night on Thursday night have compounded the problem of saturated grounds at Brighton Speedway and have forced them to reschedule this Saturdays Southern Ontario Sprint car event.
The plan is to continue with the rest of the show which will include the Vanderlaan Building Products Late Models, Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks and the Bill’s Johns Comp 4/Mini Stocks. Quinte Septic Stingers will be added to the race card as well for a non-points event. Admission will revert back to a regular night admission of $12.00 for adults, $10 for youths and seniors, $3 for kids 7-12, 6 and under are free.
“We are really battling two problems here and that is the flooding of Lake Ontario and the consistent wet damp weather we have been getting” states track promoter Mark Rinaldi. “The flooding has significantly reduced the size of the two pit area’s and the rain has not allowed the parking lot to dry out to park haulers in it like we have in the past. We do not want to risk the larger haulers getting stuck or worse damage”
On top of the parking issues the track crew is concerned about actual track conditions. “The track was rough last week and with out getting even 24 hours of dry weather any day this week we have not been able to work the track as needed” track surface expert Gary Vandertoorn said. “We want to give the sprint cars the smoothest, best track we can and we were not comfortable that will be the case on Saturday.
The plan as it stands now is to race on Saturday night with the classes listed above and reschedule the SOS Sprint Cars to Saturday, May 25th. Stingers will now be dropped from the May 25th schedule but will have an extra points event added to their schedule at a later date.
” We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we work through these damp times” said Rinaldi. “We hope everyone understands we are making the best of the situation we are being handed”
Gates will open at 5:30 and racing will start at 7pm. Saturday nights racing is brought to you by Pinty’s Delicious Foods, Mix 97 and Brighton Recycling.
