(Bowmanville, Ontario) August 5th 2012 – This fourth round of the CASC-OR regional races hosted by BARC, the Canadian Touring Trophy Races brought temperatures running as high as 38°C under clear skies. The intense heat on the track presented a real challenge making it difficult to manage tire wear not to mention generating in cab temperatures of more than 50°C.

In the qualifying runs The Garage/MBRP’s #110 Viper had earned pole position with its fastest lap time to date. With GT2 being the top class in this race there was no question that it would be an epic battle. The race was also ninety minutes long, thirty more than standard. The entire team’s ability to flawlessly refuel and get the Viper out of the pit could mean the difference between a checkered flag or going home empty handed.
Martin Barkey was able to fight off challenges to his front position and was still holding the lead when he pitted on the 26th lap under full course yellow. Working in conditions of extreme heat the crew was able to get him refuelled and front tires changed. Back on the track Martin found himself resuming the race in 11th place but after twenty-one laps of hard driving he was able to once again retake the pack leaders.
From there and with only seven laps to go Martin jockeyed the #110 Viper into the lead. At race’s end on the fifty-fourth lap he took the checkered flag a solid eighteen seconds ahead of the second place competitor.
Martin Barkey, CEO of The Garage and co-founder of MBRP Inc. had high praise for his crew. “What a great race, after setting our team’s personal best lap time during qualifying and grabbing the Pole Position we then were able to even better that with a lap time almost 4/10th faster during the race. The team had the car ready to race and performing flawlessly, it was just so easy to drive it fast.”
“I would also personally like to thank all the race fans and family who showed up to support us during our race. It was great to see everyone at the track.”
With 387 points this win puts The Garage/MBRP well ahead in the standings, 114 points ahead of the next closest team. However, as the season has already proven, in racing anything can happen.
