Brockville, ON- Tallman Truck Center was on hand for a full show at The BOS this past Saturday night along with the Patriot/SOS and CAOSS Sprint Tour. One of the biggest crowds were on hand and were treated to a great show in all divisions.
The 358 Modifieds were ready to roll as Dave Austin and rookie Ryan Arbuthnot led the field to Nate Vandermeer’s green flag with Arbuthnot getting the early race lead.
Arbuthnot had one of the fastest cars on the race track on this night as he pulled out to a half straightaway lead with Joe Banks, Jason Riddell, Dave Austin and Luke Stewart completing the top five. With a very abrasive surface, tires were on everyone’s mind as the race neared the halfway point. Arbuthnot however, was putting on a clinic at the front of the field as he started to enter lapped traffic.
Behind the leader the battle was on for fourth, fifth and sixth as Luke Stewart, Bobby Herrington and Pat O’Brien put on a great show with the veteran besting both young stars to take over fourth on lap 16.
Only one caution slowed the race as Andy Lloyd came to a halt in Turn 4.
On a lap 20 restart Arbuthnot pulled away from the field leaving Riddell, Herrington, O’Brien and Stewart to battle it out in the top five. With five-to-go Arbuthnot was well out front along with Jason Riddell, but the battle was on behind the top two.
Bryan Rogers and Bobby Herrington made slight contact in Turn 4 ending Herrington’s great top five run, which brought Lee Ladouceur into the top five. With a fast car and a fast surface it was a perfect match for Ryan Arbuthnot as he cruised on to his first ever 358 Modified win at Brockville. Riddell came home second with Pat O’Brien, Luke Stewart and Lee Ladouceur rounding out the top five at the finish.
In Sportsman action Aaron Pugh and Dana Aikins started on the front row and it was Mr. August taking away the number one position. Aikins three career wins have all come in the month of August and he was looking to add a fourth as he held the top spot over Steve Barber, Jon Mills, Jessica Power and Bruce Makinson.
The yellow would come out at the end of Lap 1 for Jenna David who hit the wall on the front stretch. On the restart Aikins continued his great run, but Jon Mills was looking to make a statement.
After taking the second spot on Lap 2, he quickly made his way to the outside, getting around Aikins one lap later for the lead as Jessica Power, Makinson and Shane Pecore battled it out in the top five.
Once in front Mills started to pull away, but Jessica Power was also on the charge. Power was able to quickly make her way to second just past the halfway point of the event and tried to run down the leader as the laps wound down.
The yellow flew for Joey Evans as he spun his car in Turn 4. On the restart Power tried several times to make the move on the inside in Turn 1 and would draw alongside of Mills on a couple of occassions.
Despite her efforts it would not be enough as Mills held on for Win #1 of the season over Power and Pecore. Chris Herbison came from 14th to fourth at the line and Dylan Evoy also charged from his 16th starting spot, to round out the top five at the finish.
The first ever Co-Sanctioned Patriot/SOS/CAOSS Sprint Car Series event was ready to go and Jason Barney drew the pole position and quickly rocketed out front of the 26 car field.
Steve Poirier, Keith Dempster, Chris Jones and Justin Barger battled hard in the opening lap until the yellow flew for Bob Crawford as he spun in Turn 1. One lap later, Jeff Cook had problems bringing the yellow out again.
On the restart Barney kept the lead but Poirier was on the charge after drawing the fourth position. Poirier went to the top side in Turn 4 and easily took the lead, leaving Barney, Jones, Dempster and Barger to round out the top five positions.
On Lap 10 the leader started to enter lapped traffic and this played right into Jason Barney’s hands as he tried several times to chase down Poirier until the caution flew at the halfway point for Kyle Fraser who slowed on the front stretch.
On the restart Poirier kept a comfortable lead but behind the top two, the Joyceville Jet, Rick Wilson was running strong. After starting 10th on the grid he worked his way to third, getting by Chris Jones on Lap 17, and tried to run down the top two as the laps clicked off.
The final yellow flew on lap 17 for SOS regular Warren Mahoney as he spun in Turn 3. On the final restart Steve Poirier jumped out to the lead and would never look back in the final eight laps to secure his 150th career sprint car win with Barney taking yet another runner up finish.
Rick Wilson had his best run since 2010 at Brockville as he came home third, Chris Jones and Justin Barger completed the top five.
In the Rookie Sportsman race, Jamie Young was the class of the field as he took the lead away on the opening lap from Richard Raison. Young had a good handling race car and was able to pull out to a comfortable margin over Richard Raison and Jasmine David as they had a spirited battle for second and third throughout the entire 15 lap affair.
With the race going caution free, it allowed Young to pull out to a commanding lead, a lead in which he would never give up as he dominated to score his second feature win of the year. Raison held off David for second, while Jeremy Coulter came home fourth and Josh Powers rounded out the top five.
In the Street Stocks, Selena Simzer and Darrick Eaton were looking for their first wins of 2013, but it Alex Gagnon leading the opening lap.
Gagnon had a great car as well as he held the top spot for the opening six laps before Eaton rocketed back by on the outside to take control of the race. Eaton began to pull away and was looking for victory, but a quick yellow on lap 14 set up a one lap dash to the checkers.
On the final restart Eaton and Gagnon made slight contact allowing John Gifford to come to the outside and race three- wide for the win in Turns 3 & 4. Gagnon and Eaton made more contact coming off the turn allowing John Gifford to come by and lead the final 100 yards to score his second win of the season with Gagnon taking second, Kevin Fetterly Jr. came home third while a disappointed Darrick Eaton came to the line for fourth. Travis Andrews rounded out the top five.
In the Rookie feature a pair of lady drivers brought the field to the green flag as Geneva Sheffield and Samantha Henderson charged hard but it was third place starter Randy Massey getting the advantage into Turn 1. Massey would have a fast car in the early laps as he held the lead until points leader Quincy Roberts came from his eighth starting spot to take the lead just before halfway.
On Lap 9 it was a scary moment for leading rookie Mike Best, as his car caught fire on the front stretch. Saftey workers quickly got the fire out and Best was able to climb out with no injuries.
Corbin Miller was trying to make a race out of it with Roberts in the closing laps but it was not to be as Roberts held strong for his fifth win of the year over Miller, Samantha Henderson had a great run finishing third with new comer Mike McGonegal taking his best ever finish in fourth, while two-time winner Josh Kirkland rounded out the top five.
Next week it’s final points night in all divisions including the final event in the Ogilvie’s Auto and Fleet Triple Crown for the Modified and Sportsman divisions. Race time will begin at 7pm with a pre-race tailgate party taking place in the afternoon and a post race bonfire with special guests Healy and Orr playing some great music to celebrate the end of the regular season.
