EDMONTON, ALBERTA, CANADA (May 24, 2013)- Despite not competing in a race since March, the Admiraal Racing team has been busy preparing a variety of race cars for use this summer in several different racing series’. Additionally, 18-year old Kelly Admiraal has been wrapping up his high school career eying an opportunity to race full time.
This Saturday night May 25, the Admiraal Racing team will be back in action at Auto Clearing Speedway in Saskatoon with their Super Late Model cars preparing for the Western Canadian Super Late Model Championship that will begin in June.
During his break from behind the wheel, Kelly Admiraal has spent a lot of time in the gym staying fit for the summer ahead.
“After high school my goal is to devote myself to racing and being fit is an important part of racing,” Admiraal offered. “I am so excited to get back to racing and see that all the work in the gym and the race shop has paid off.”
Joining his younger brother this weekend on the racetrack will be Ian Admiraal who manages the race team.
“Even though I have not raced that much in the last year, I have been very busy in the shop learning about set ups from our crew chief Craig Raudman,” Ian Admiraal offered. “Craig has breathed new life into our program and we are excited to get our cars on track.”
Raudman, a NASCAR championship winning driver and crew chief has been impressed with the team that has moved their operation to his shop in Northern California.
“These guys do it right,” Raudman offered. “They have put a plan in motion and have stuck to it. Working with Ian and Kelly has been great and they both have a bright future in the sport.”
The Admiraal brothers are two in a growing list of drivers from the Edmonton area who are making their mark in racing both in Canada and the United States. “Racing is being well promoted in the Northwest,” Admiraal offered. “And with Alberta having such a strong economy right now, many of the folks who used to race in the 1980’s can now afford to get their kids into the sport.”
While the two brothers are best friends off the track, they are ultra-competitive in everything they do. “My brother and I are very competitive on track but we are the first to help and assist each other,” Kelly Admiraal said.
For his part, Ian offered a more humorous explanation. “We are very competitive but I really do not like racing Kelly for position because when we leave the track I am responsible for the damage to both cars. Just kidding. It is all about having fun and achieving our goals.”
Auto Clearing Motor Speedway is perhaps on of the finest short track in Canada if not North America. “We are certainly blessed having such a great facility to race at so close to home,” Ian Admiraal said. “We have a full field of cars at every race and the fans really support the track. There is a certain prestige about racing there.”
The team’s next NASCAR K&N Pro Series start will be on the roadcourse at Sonoma (CA) Raceway June 22. The team will also make selected starts in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, Super Late Model special events, and run the entire Dakota Dunes Western Canadian Super Late Model championship.
