PETERBOROUGH, ON (October 13, 2017)- Running up front all feature long, A.J. Emms scored a runner-up finish in the Autumn Colours Classic at Peterborough Speedway.
Emms was quick in his heats, avoiding a wreck in the first qualifier to finish second, while winning the other one.
Starting fifth, he moved up to third in the opening laps prior to the third caution at Lap 6. He’d continue to move forward, eventually challenging Luke Gignac for the lead at Lap 11. Ultimately, he’d slip back to third before the seventh caution came out on Lap 16. Restarting third, he was unable to make much ground on that restart.
Despite race officials reverting to single-file restarts following nine cautions in the first 23 laps, he was able to get alongside Gignac for second at Lap 30, but the caution flew before he completed the pass. He was able to make it work on the restart afterwards, though, moving up to second with 20 laps to go.
He would try a couple different ways by Gary McLean on the restarts to close out the event, but was unable to make it work, crossing the finish line in second.
“Overall, it was a great run for us,” Emms said post-race. “Really want to thank the sponsors for their support – wouldn’t be here without them. I want to thank my dad, my parents, my crew, my mom, my step-mom Jayne, my girlfriend for letting me do this because I spend a lot of time. I know over this off-season I’m going to probably spend twice as much time because hate finishing second, but very thankful to be here. Thanks to my crew, and thanks to everyone for coming out today.”
With eight top-fives this season, Emms placed second in the season-ending OSCAAR Modified standings. Emms is set to use it as motivation towards being even stronger next year.
“I’m definitely going to feel that drive over the winter, and going to do everything that I can to get better myself, and make the car better, and keep learning,” he said. “We’ll be back next year, and keep coming out here and running the best that we can every single week.”
He went on to add, “Racing is a learning game, as far as I’m concerned. You never stop learning. Nobody knows everything so you got to learn. Overall, very happy to be here and very thankful that I got this opportunity.”
Emms and team are proud to be supported by BAE Environmental, Artech Promotional Products, Sunshine Super Wash, Thor Motors Orillia, Klotz Canada, TSS Top Shops and Creecher’s Design this season.
