PETERBOROUGH, ON (August 6, 2020)- OMRS drivers and teams were eagerly looking forward to the launch of the 2020 season, however with the effects of COVID-19 being felt around the world and here at home, their anticipation was quickly replaced by disappointment as the series dates either passed or were postponed. Despite the optimism of everyone, the OMRS officials have contacted the drivers and tracks informing them that the balance of the 2020 schedule would be cancelled.

“There were a number of factors that went into the decision, but first and foremost was the health and safety of everyone associated with the series. We all want to be out there racing as badly as anyone else, but timing and conditions just aren’t in our favour,” admitted series spokesperson Rick Warnes. “With the mandated regulations and without the fans, this is the best thing we can do as we move forward during these difficult circumstances.”

Warnes says the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series will now focus towards 2021, as the group works to continue to build their exciting brand of affordable modified racing. Going forward there will be the rescheduling of the inaugural Bill Pickford Memorial race, the anticipation and excitement of a couple of new race teams coming onboard, along with the revitalized existing teams returning to action.

OMRS is proudly presented by GEN-3 Electric and supported by series sponsors: Sterling Tire, Bourque Transmission, All or Nothing Brewhouse, Conview Concrete Inc., TNT Performance Products, THINKPATH Design and Clarke Motorsports Communications.

The teams and series sponsors would like to thank Peterborough Speedway, J.P. Josiasse & Dave Sikma for their continued support, as well as to Flamboro Speedway, John Casale, Frank Casale and Gary Colling for their continued support, along with both speedways support staffs’ for providing tracks on which to race, continued Rick Warnes.

“We are greatly appreciative of the ongoing support of loyal fans and look forward to seeing them all back in the stands at speedways in 2021. This has been a very difficult season of wait and see for everyone involved in the sport of short track stock car racing but working together toward a common goal and maintaining a positive attitude going forward will help us all find a brighter tomorrow.”
