ST. THOMAS, ON (August 6, 2020)- DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team were raring to go for the start of the 2020 NASCAR Pinty’s Series season opener, the Castrol Speedfest that was to occur in May. However, the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic curtailed all plans to get the racing season underway, until now. The Castrol Edge Dodge team will be back in action only a few days!
The 2020 NASCAR Pinty’s Series will consist of three doubleheader events, featuring twin 125 races at Sunset Speedway on August 15th, Flamboro Speedway August 29th and concluding at Jukasa Speedway September 12th. In assisting with authorities to continue the work necessary to limit any opportunity for the virus to spread, these events will be held without fans in attendance and participants will follow strict protocols.
Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team are feeling that excitement of a new season approaching. “It’s great news in every way” said Kennington. “So many medical professionals and others have worked so hard to get things under control and now we’re able to do what we love again. I want us all to appreciate this opportunity and put on the best show we can” said Kennington.
For the first time ever the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team will race without spectators. “I really wish we could have our fans in the grandstands and show them how much we’ve missed them and how important they are to our sport. But all the races will be on TSN and we’re going to put on a great show each weekend” stated the driver.
Though they weren’t able to race others, the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team has been keeping busy, so they were ready when announcement came, they’d be racing again. “We spent a lot of time over the winter getting our cars ready and even got out to do some testing” declared Kennington. “We are really pleased with how the car performed and can’t wait to get after it” he added.
With the season postponed, Kennington has been spending the past few months working on his cars and honing his skills in virtual races through iRacing. He gave fans a sneak peek into his #GarageLife this summer in Castrol’s Car Cribs media campaign on Castrol’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/castrolcanada.
Each of the NASCAR Pinty’s Series races in this abbreviated season will be shown on TSN. Broadcast details will be available soon.
