SASKATOON, SK (July 25, 2018)- Jason White arrived in Saskatchewan prior to the NASCAR Pinty’s Series race this past Wednesday and brought his #28 Humboldt Strong entry for the race to the community of Humboldt, Saskatchewan. In what was an emotional visit for the families and team members of the junior hockey club that suffered an enormous loss in the tragic bus crash earlier this year, White was happy to help the community heal.
“I can’t tell you how special it was to be part of that day in Humboldt,” said White prior to Wednesday’s NASCAR Pinty’s Series race at Wyant Group Raceway in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. “To be able to talk with the families, to be welcomed by the team and visit their dressing room, it’s an experience I’ll never forget”.
For race number one of the twin 125-lap races White would line up 14th on the grid. Right from the start of the race White had his hands full with the #28 Powder Ventures/Humboldt Strong car. When the caution flag flew slowing the field White made a pit stop for handling adjustments but it did little to solve the problem.
“She was wicked loose and a real challenge” said White after race one. “We’re throwing the kitchen sink at it for the second race to make it better”.
The team made more significant changes for race two but once again White struggled to find speed in the #28 Powder Ventures/Humboldt Strong car and eventually was collected in an incident with another car.
“We actually went so far with our changes the car was a bit tight in the second race,” explained White. But even with our spin out there, no real damage to the car, barely a mark on it and the guys can dig into it and make it better for the next race” said the driver.
Though he didn’t have the race results he’d hoped, White was proud of being able to run this salute to the spirit of the Humboldt Broncos team and show his support for those left behind.
“This was just something I had to do. Have to thank my friend and former partner Rob Zimmer for helping to put this together, these families are going to need our help for a long time and we want them to know that we’re there for them” said White.
Jason White will be racing the Powder Ventures car next at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park as part of the NASCA Truck Series weekend August 26th.
