Hamilton, ON (May 30, 2017)- All the hours put in through the off-season, as the fans were treated to a pair of exciting 25-lap features on Saturday night at Flamboro Speedway. In the end, two veterans visited victory lane with Glenn Watson and Shane Maginnis splitting the glory.
Starting the first feature in second, Watson quickly took the lead off the drop of the green flag and never looked back. The past series champion led flag-to-flag to score the first victory out of the gate for 2017. Watson didn’t go unchallenged, with Maginnis trying to close the gap in the closing stages after starting the event in fifth.
John Cadman turned a pole into a third-place finish in his second career OSCAAR start after a runner-up last year at the Autumn Colours Classic. Derrick Tiemersma came from seventh to fourth, with Tyler Hawn rounding out the top-five.
Charlie Gallant finished sixth, with Gary Passer placing seventh in his back-up after a spin with five laps to go. Chad Corcoran and Keith Temple rounded out the field.
The second feature started off a little messy, with Cadman going for the spin on Lap 1 after starting fifth, with Maginnis taking the escape route through the grass.
Following a complete restart, Maginnis came up through the field after starting in sixth, slipping underneath Charlie Gallant on Lap 9 to take the lead. From there on, he didn’t look back en route to scoring the victory. It marked the second straight win at Flamboro for the veteran after winning the Don Biederman Memorial last year.
All eyes focused on the third spot in the closing stages with Cadman searching for a way around Tiemersma. Unfortunately, the pair made contact on the last lap, resulting in Tiemersma spinning around off of turn two. As a result, both drivers were scored at the back of the lead lap cars.
In return, Gary Passer’s hard work to hold off both Glenn Watson and Tyler Hawn throughout the last 10 laps paid off as he picked up the final podium spot in third. Cadman got credited with sixth ahead of Tiemersma, Corcoran, and Temple.
