(JANUARY 25, 2019)- After a successful sophomore OSCAAR Modified season, Wally Wilson will once again run the full schedule in 2019.

“My thoughts going into the 2019 season are fairly similar to last season – full of excitement as the series continues to grow,” he commented. “Bigger fields mean more competition, harder racing and of course the opportunity to gain more friends and broaden our series’ fans to a whole new level! After being consistent once again last season and pulling off a 10th place finish in standings, the team has our heads held high with a lot of confidence!”

For his third season behind the wheel of the No. 69 Modified, Wilson says the goals are to continuing growing as a driver while learning as much as possible in the process.

“Of course the biggest goal is to go out and beat that 79h car that the Horner Racing team bring every week because we want to be champions,” he added. “But I find it’s not about being the fastest car; it’s about consistency to win a championship! So the real goal would be to just keep consistent with our finishes, make every feature, and show that we’re a force to be reckoned with!”

The 2019 schedule will see Wilson hit all of the big events in 2019, with Delaware Speedway being at the top of his list. Racing on the same night that the ISMA Super Modifieds has the Owen Sound native excited for the ‘big stage’ opportunity, while taking in their event.

“I’ve always wanted to see race in person so it’s going to be cool to be part of that show,” he commented.

He is also looking back to getting to Jukasa Motor Speedway after having a rough showing there last year with an incident during practice.

“That wall bit us pretty good, so we’ve really got something to prove going in to that weekend,” he continued. “Outside of the big events though, I’m very excited for Peterborough Speedway; that’s one of my favourite tracks in anything I’ve raced there. Our team really showed a huge improvement going into the ACC weekend last season, so it’s got everyone’s confidence built up to return there!”

Last year, Wilson was able to put together a solid sophomore campaign that featured six top-15 finishes, including a career-best ninth.

“I learned many things last year,” he reflected. “It’s hard to pick the biggest thing, but I’d have to say learning how to run side-by-side with cars is going to be a huge help this year. I believe we’ve got the car capable of being up front, and I’m very confident that I can show that with everything I’ve learned the last two seasons!”

In hopes of running up front, Wilson says the key will be working to improve his lines so he can battle for positions against the other cars on track.

“I’ve been able to do it in the Midgets, but with the modified everything drives so different,” he said. “So the learning curve has been steep but this is the season it will all come together!”

Outside of his own program, Wilson’s excitement extends to the overall state of the drivers in seeing discussions surrounding the roster of drivers.

“There are a handful of rookies I’ve been watching in their respective series that are incredibly talented guys,” Wilson said. “I’m not sure if they’ve all announced their modified plans, but I know we’ve got guys coming from super lates, legend cars, thunder cars, and even some returning drivers that haven’t been out in a few years. They’re going to be fierce competition, especially if they’ve done their homework! The state of the series is so high, everyone wants to be a part of the OSCAAR Modifieds; it’s amazing to see how far it’s come in what will be my third season in the series. I can’t wait to see the on track battles with everyone!”

Wilson’s efforts for 2019 will be supported by The Fyre Place & Patio Shop and Have1.com. Wally Wilson Racing is a proud supporter of #BurnOutTheBully and Laps for Muscular Dystrophy..
