CAMBRIDGE, ONTARIO (April 17, 2013) – With a successful first season in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts, the Top Dragster team of Brody and Tom VanDerGeld will be looking to continue with this game plan for 2013.
“We’re very happy with our first year,” noted father Tom VanDerGeld, team owner and crew chief for the effort. “We were pleased with the performance last year, and Brody was the only rookie to qualify for each event.”
Former two-time Junior Dragster champion Brody did qualify for each Quick 32 Sportsman Series race in the car, which is capable of going down the quarter mile in just less than six seconds at 200 mph. While the young driver did not win any races, he did go laps and learned a great deal, added father Tom.
He mentioned there will be few changes to the car for the upcoming season, except for some engine work performed by Kirk Silbermann of Ajax engines. The big 706-cubic inch engine sits between the rails of a Dan Page chassis which has been updated by Lowdown Hot Rods, and features an Aeromotive fuel system and Induction Solutions nitrous setup. A modified two-speed Powerglide built by Joe’s Transmission Service sits behind the engine.
Other members of the crew include Linda VanDerGeld, Austin VanDerGeld and Stephanie Wilson. Sponsorship is provided by Marken Performance, Joe’s Transmission Service, Ajax Engines, and NGK Spark Plugs.
VanDerGeld wanted to thank the support the team has received from Ajax Engines and Joe Boniferro. Joe has helped Brody a great deal, he said, and has been great in mentoring Brody.
“We’re looking forward to this season. Brody is comfortable with the car and ready to go.”
The first event in the 2013 Quick 32 Sportsman Series will be held May 10-11 at US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan, one of six races this year.
The Quick 32 Sportsman Series www.Quick32.ca will compete at all these events in conjunction with its companion series, the Pro Modified Racing Association, www.PMRA.ca, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series www.PBSS.ca, providing an exciting, colorful, and complete show of the best in drag racing action.
