June 13, 2013- The 2013 season has started off well for Luke Whitteker and the Whitteker Motorsports team. They have posted top five in virtually every event that they have competed in, and they were looking to continue that streak this past weekend with a 50 lap Ogilvie’s Auto Triple Crown Series race at Brockville Speedway on Saturday night, and the Cornwall Speedway season opener on Sunday after three consecutive attempts to start their 2013 season.
The previous week at Brockville, rain began to fall just after the time trial session. Whitteker had posted the fastest time in his group, earning a front row starting spot in his qualifying heat race. They picked up where the left off this past Saturday night, and Whitteker took advantage of the great starting position and picked up the heat race victory. In the 50 lap main event, Whitteker started from third place, and fell to fourth on the restart as the inside lane was a distinct disadvantage on this night. He moved back to third place on the following lap seven restart and held third place through the next 12 laps. Whitteker settled into fourth at lap 19 and remained in that position throughout the remaining 31 laps, posting another solid top five finish.
The action moved to Cornwall Speedway on Sunday night as they were finally able to start the 2013 season. Track conditions were difficult due to the extraordinary amounts of rainfall the past few days as well as the throughout the previous month that has caused three consecutive rainouts at Cornwall to start the season. By luck of the draw upon registering at the track, Whitteker started his qualifying heat race from the front row, and for the second consecutive night, he took the checkered flag. In the 30 lap main event, Whitteker started from the front row and settled into second place until a yellow slowed the field on lap 21. The following lap, Whitteker captured the lead, and look like a feature win was in store for the Whitteker Motorsports team, but an untimely caution slowed the field one last time on lap 24 and Luke would drop to second place on the restart. Whitteker continued in second throughout the remaining laps, continuing his impressive top five streak.
This coming weekend, Whitteker will be back at Brockville Speedway on Saturday night looking for another top five finish, and trying to capture his first ever Brockville Speedway victory. On Sunday night, Whitteker will be at Cornwall Speedway once again. This Sunday is driver autograph night at the track, giving fans a chance to get an autograph from Luke and the rest of the Cornwall Speedway drivers.
