VALLEE JONCTION, QC (June 30, 2019)- DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge arrived at round number three of the 2019 NASCAR Pinty’s Series at the Autodrome Chaudière in Vallee Jonction, Quebec with sights set on another solid result. Unfortunately, aggressive driving and cut down tires would dash the team’s hope in the early going.
In typical fashion the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge was quick during the afternoon practice session for the 300-lap main event later that evening. Kennington tried to get a little more out of the car in qualifying and it hurt.
“I got a bit loose in turn one and cost a couple of spots” explained Kennington.
The #17 Castrol Edge Dodge would start the race from the 10thspot on the grid. Aggression was the theme of the race. With threatening skies looming all drivers were anxious to get moving right from the drop of the green flag. Once again it was the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team that paid the price.
“We got hit on lap one and that bent the steering arm which caused us problems the rest of the night,” said the driver.
Only a handful of laps after the contact the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge would suffer a cutdown right front tire from the damaged part. Heading to pitlane the team changed tires and quickly sent Kennington back out on track but several laps down. The team would suffer another cut tire later in the race as a result of this same issue.
“That one hit sealed our fate. The team had to use spacers to try and compensate but it just wasn’t enough” said a dejected Kennington after the race. “I had to really slow down and not drive as hard as I could, or we’d keep having cut tires all night”.
“Thanks to the guys for working so hard, nothing we can do about it, just like we always do we’ll keep digging and be ready to go at the next one” stated Kennington.
DJ Kennington and the Castrol Edge Dodge team return to next on Saturday July 13that Exhibition Place in Toronto as part of the Toronto Indy weekend.
