LONDON, Ont. – June 19, 2018 – A challenging day made for a tough evening as Matt Pritiko logged a 12th-place finish during the APC United Late Model Series’ Hy-Grade Roofing 100 at Peterborough Speedway on Saturday, June 16.
“We just couldn’t get the car setup the way we wanted,” Pritiko said. “We’ve been trying something new in the rear-end setup wise, and it’s just not working out. We were trying to see if it would click, but it hasn’t worked out the way we wanted the last couple of races, so it’s time to change it back to last year’s setup.”
While Pritiko didn’t get the car to his liking, he still turned in a sixth-place qualifying effort during time trials, which lined him up eighth on the starting grid for the 100-lap main event. After running in the top-10 early on, Pritiko surrendered his track position in order to pit and make further adjustments.
“Fifteen laps in we made a pit stop and I think we just over adjusted,” Pritiko explained. “We just couldn’t get the car under our feet. It was too tight in the centre and it was loose off the corner. We’re working to figure out what went wrong.”
When the checkered flag waved, Pritiko had made his way from the rear to a 12th-place finish. While it was a tough day for Pritiko, he still maintained fourth in the championship standings, just 23 points back of the point leader. Despite the finish outside the top-10, Pritiko was happy the car returned home without damage.
“It’s still a decent points finish,” Pritiko said. “It feels like we’ve run a lot of races, but we still have six races to go and they’re at tracks we feel really comfortable at, so we’re looking forward to the last two-thirds of the schedule. We still have plenty of time to chase the championship.”
Pritiko now shifts his focus to the next race on the 2018 series schedule, the Spectra Premium 100 at his home track, Delaware Speedway, on Friday, June 29. Pritiko is a former weekly competitor at Delaware and will look to use his extensive knowledge of the track to earn a win.
“I think we’re going to try to test a few times before then and try to get our groove back,” Pritiko said. “You have some good weekends and some bad ones, so we’ll get back on the right foot at Delaware.
Race time for the APC United Late Model Series at Delaware Speedway on Friday, June 29 is 7:30pm. For additional event information, visit www.delawarespeedway.com and www.apcracingseries.com.
