MIRABEL, QC – Rookie Alex Guenette reached a milestone in his developing career by finishing 10th in a NASCAR Canadian Tire event, the Jiffy Lube 100 presented by Snap-on. After encountering mechanical problems and one crash in the first three events of the season, Alex and his team were more than satisfied with the fighting 10th place earned by the young driver.
Starting 13th on the grid, Alex fought hard throughout the race with a group of quick veterans such as Kerry Micks, Martin Roy and Jean-Francois Dumoulin before crossing the finish line in 10th position, and also garnering points for Top Rookie in the race.
Alex is learning fast as he goes along, achieving his quickest time one lap from the end of the 30-lap race. The race strategy used by the team worked out perfectly.
According to Alex, “I was aggressive right from the start, and then settled in a quick rhythm that allowed me to stay right up with the cars just ahead of me. That pace left me with enough brakes and tires to put on a real charge in the closing laps. The No 39 Moto Illimitées/DLGL Dodge the guys at Jacombs Racing gave me felt great and allowed me to push as hard as I could right to the end.”
Looking towards the next races in the series, Alex felt a turn for the positive after some unlucky races in the early part of the season.
“This race went off perfectly for us, the car was working great, I was driving better and better as the race went on, and we did not encounter ant mechanical or incident relates problems. Now we go to three oval events, where I feel very much at ease. I feel we are now on a positive note for the remaining races.”
The team now leaves for the Western swing and will be back in Quebec for the July 27 race at Autodrome St-Eustache, just North of Montreal.
The next race for the Moto Illimitées/DLGL team will be held this coming Saturday, July 13, at the Motoplex Speedway oval, near Vernon (BC).
