DURHAM, ON- Former Ltd. Late Model regular turned Open Wheel Modified rookie Tommy Robb hopes to earn his 9th top-10 finish of the season this Sunday, September 28th at Sunset Speedway. The event serves as the penultimate race on the 2014 OSCAAR Modified Tour, and marks Robb’s 5th career tour appearance at Sunset.
“It’s always exciting heading back to Sunset”, explains Robb. “There isn’t much that’s not to like about the place. The track is awesome, the facility is gorgeous and the fans are top notch. We’ve had some great runs there this season, and we’re hoping to build on that this weekend”
“The Velocity is one of the biggest events that we get to be a part of all season. It’s a huge motivator knowing how many people are going to be there, and how big of a field we’re likely to have”
The Durham, ON product has finished outside of the top-10 just twice this season, and attributes his consistency to the work of his family-run team away from the racetrack.
“We’ve had a phenomenal rookie year so far, and none of that is possible without my team”, says Robb. “We’re a small outfit, but what we lack in numbers we definitely try to make up for in hard work. Long hours in the shop have paid off for the most part. When we’re not breaking, we’ve been running up front. That means a lot to us”
Robb will enter the Velocity with hopes of earning his first career OSCAAR Modified Tour podium finish, and feels as though with the team’s recent improvements, a breakthrough performance could be within reach.
“We haven’t taken many steps backwards this season. Every night out this year has seen an improvement in some way, shape or form. We’ve been so close, so many times and I know that if we make the right decisions in practice, we’ll have enough car to contend in the feature”
