FRASERVILLE, ON- Road course ace Gary Klutt did not look out of place for a moment in his oval debut with the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series on Saturday, September 20th. The second-generation star ran within the top-15 before a clutch failure sent his No. 61 CTL Financing/IdentifyYourself.ca Dodge behind the wall just over 70-laps from the checkered flag.
“It’s definitely a disappointment that we weren’t able to race to the finish today, but we’re not coming away from this empty handed”, explained the oft-positive Klutt post-race. “Our whole team learned a lot, and we’re walking out of Kawartha with a whole list of things we’d like to change for our next race”
Klutt, in his first career asphalt oval event, improved throughout the day. Qualifying in the 19th position, and steadily advancing his way through the field upon the drop of the green flag.
“This was the kind of situation where we really had to learn on the job”, said Klutt. “I didn’t have a lot of laps at Kawartha before this afternoon, so every lap gave me an opportunity to improve”
“We passed a lot of good cars in the first 20-laps, and I could feel the track starting to come to me the longer the race went on”
Though a mechanical DNF is not how the Legendary Motorcar representative envisioned his oval debut ending, Klutt was quick to praise the efforts of his team and forecasts an even better outing in his next oval appearance.
“I can’t say enough about this team”, smiled Klutt. “They rallied around me today, and worked with me to bring this car up to speed with very limited track time. We made the most of every lap we spent on the racetrack today, and I couldn’t possibly ask for anything more”
“We learned a lot today, and we’ll learn even more the next time we’re on an oval”, continued Klutt. “As long as we’re moving forward and making improvements – no matter how big or small – I’m a happy guy. We have a great team that can easily adapt. We just need to learn the ropes and we’ll be right there”
Gary Klutt’s 2014 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series season was made possible thanks to CTL Canada’s Vehicle Finance Company, www.IdentifyYourself.ca and Activate Drinks & AQUAhydrate – the official drinks of the CTL / LMC team.
