DURHAM, ON- For OSCAAR Modified Tour rookie Tommy Robb, the 2014 season has been as much a story of fighting to stay on the track as it has been a story of fighting for position.
The former Ltd. Late Model regular overcame the loss of his team’s primary engine, a mid-season wreck that severely damaged the front clip of his No. 88R and a broken wrist suffered in a crash at Barrie Speedway in June.
Through his exploits, Robb earned the nickname ‘Relentless’, a moniker he wore with pride as the 13-race campaign wore on.
“I think, this summer, our team learned just how crazy we actually are,” laughs Robb. “I can’t even begin to say how proud I am of this team. There’s no quit in us at all”
“There were a lot of nights where it would’ve been a lot easier to pack up and start thinking about 2015,” continues Robb. “But, I’m happy we didn’t. We learned a lot this season, and none of that would have been possible if we hadn’t worked through our issues”
Robb would end 2014 season with a 7th place finish in the final OSCAAR Modified Tour point standings. A feat that, all things considered, is something Robb’s family-run operation takes great pride in.
“A top-10 finish in points for us is like a win after the season we had,” says Robb. “The amount of talent on this tour is insane. I don’t think I would’ve made it to mid-season with any other team behind me. These guys worked their hearts and souls out, every single week. I could never thank them enough”
“I didn’t have a lot of experience in a Modified before this season,” admits the Durham, ON driver. “Because of that, a lot of what we went through was trial and error. With all that we learned in 2014, I think it puts us in a phenomenal position moving forward”
“Every time we left the track this year, I felt more confident in our program. There’s not one person on this team that anticipated this being an overnight success. We’re not afraid of a little hard work, and we’re definitely excited to see what the future holds for us”
With 10 top-10 finishes to his name this year, Robb is already putting together plans for his 2015 campaign.
“Right now, we’d love nothing more than to be back on the tour next season,” explains the freshman. “A lot of it is going to come down to marketing support, and we’re already putting together our promotional packages to get things ready for next year”
“If the sponsorship is there, you’ll see us back crisscrossing the province with the tour,” closes Robb. “We’re already talking about ways in which we can implement the lessons we learned in 2014.”
Tommy Robb’s 2014 rookie campaign was made possible thanks to First General Services of Hanover and Kitchener, Sturrock Construction, Roymar Construction, Revolution Race Products and the ever-present support of Tommy’s Mother and Father.
