Now that the Ontario Short Track Playoff Season has wound down, we have a chance to look back over the dozens of video interviews we’ve compiled in the past month. To start things off, we check in with Mini Stock dominator Andy Kamrath after his Frost Fest triumph, take a look at Gord Shepherd’s emotional trip to victory lane at Peterborough’s Autumn Colours Classic, showcase an absolute classic post-race interview with John Baker Jr. and ask ‘The Mastodon’ Shawn Chenoweth about his return to the OSCAAR Super Late Model Tour.
London Recreational Racing representative Andy Kamrath won Flamboro Speedway’s Frost Fest on Saturday, October 18th. The victory marked Kamrath’s 6th invitational win of the 2014 season. We asked ‘The Instant Classic’ post-race about his Frost Fest performance, his incredible season and his plans for 2015. Click here for the video and follow Andy on Twitter @AndyKamrath35.
3-time Barrie Speedway champion Gord Shepherd (above, by Dan Little) earned his first career Autumn Colours Classic triumph at Peterborough Speedway on October 12th. ‘The Smoke’ capitalized on a penalty to race leader Ryan Kimball to take the lead with less than 10-laps remaining in the 114-lap Pro Late Model A Main. Click here to see Gord’s emotional victory lane interview and be sure to follow the Oro Station, ON veteran on Twitter @GordShepherd10.
Peterborough Speedway Thunder Car mainstay John Baker Jr. (above, by Thompson Photography) had an eventful Autumn Colours Classic to say the least. The Oshawa, ON veteran found himself caught up in a Lap 1 wreck that dealt considerable damage to the front end of his No. 63. Somehow, JBJ and team were able to bandage his car back together again, and by the time the 50-lap A Main was complete, the multi-time champion had picked his way through the field to finish in the 3rd position. Post-race, we asked JBJ exactly what happened and the oft-colorful fan favourite delivered one of the best interviews in ‘Classic’ history. Click here for the video interview.
After compiling 23 feature victories in 2014, at speedways across Ontario, in the Thunder Car & Pro Late Model division, Shawn Chenoweth (above, by Dan Little) has announced he will be following the OSCAAR Super Late Model Tour in 2015. ‘The Mastodon’ made a pair of tour starts to close out the 2014 season, earning a 5th and 2nd place finish at Sunset and Peterborough respectively. We recently had a chance to ask Chenoweth about his third go-around with the tour, and the veteran let us know exactly what he expects of himself and his team.
