INNISFIL, ON (May 24, 2022)- Taking the lead at the halfway mark, Tom Walters did not look back en route to winning the Qwick Wick OSCAAR Hot Rods presented by Sauble Falls Tent and Trailer Park feature fueled by EPIC Racewear on Sunday at Sunset Speedway.
Tom Walter won the first JRS Auction heat ahead of Adrian Foster, Marty Monette, Nick Clarke, Rob Bromley, Jerry Broom, Connor Ellis, Dan Rothwell, and Gary Hannah.
Steve Book was victorious in the second qualifier in front of Amanda Balson, Donny Beatty, Jeremy Taggert, Bill Zardo, Sean Walker, and Ryan Cowan. There was a caution flag when contact between Jim Blackwell and Zardo sent both cars around, with Jaeger McMaster making significant contact with Blackwell in the process.
The third heat did not start off as planned, with Paul Bogensberger Jr. going for a spin on the opening lap. Amanda Balson picked up the win ahead of Beatty, Zardo, Bromley, Foster, Paul Senior, Ellis, Hannah, and Bogensberger Jr.
Tom Walters picked up the daily double in front of Monette, McMaster, Book, Taggert, Clarke, Jeremy McLean, Broom, Walker, and Ryan Cowan.
Come feature time, Donny Beatty started pole in front of Bill Zardo, Marty Monette, Amanda Balson, Rob Bromley, Steve Book, Tom Walters, Adrian Foster, Jeremy Taggert, Nick Clarke, Jaeger McMaster, Jerry Broom, Sean Walker, Ryan Cowan, Gary Hannah, Connor Ellis, Paul Senior, Jeremy McLean, Jim Blackwell, Coltin Everingham, and Paul Bogensberger Jr.
Donny Beatty grabbed the early advantage in front of Monette and Zardo, as Everingham headed down pit road to end his race early. Bromley would get alongside Balson for fourth on Lap 2, as Walters and Book battled for sixth.
The front of the field saw a challenge with Monette alongside Beatty for the lead on Lap 3, as Walters got alongside Bromley for fourth a lap later. Marty Monette took the lead on Lap 5 ahead of Beatty, Zardo, Walters and Bromley. Book challenged Bromley for fifth on Lap 7, as Bogensberger Jr. made his way down pit road.
Bromley held off the challenge, keeping fifth in front of Book, Foster, Balson, McMaster, Taggert, and Clarke. The drivers continued to fall out of the event, though, with Senior coming down pit road on Lap 10. Balson then got alongside Foster for seventh on Lap 10, taking the spot a lap later as McMaster, Taggert, and Clarke followed her through.
Things got interesting on Lap 13, with Zardo and Walters splitting the lap car of Blackwell three-wide, with Walters getting third. Walters then got alongside Beatty for second a lap later, before challenging Monette for the lead at Lap 15.
Tom Walters’ climb to the top was complete on Lap 16 as he took the lead, with Monette and Zardo side-by-side for second. Zardo took the second spot a lap later, ahead of Monette, Beatty, Bromley, Book, and Balson. Beatty then got alongside Monette for third on Lap 19, completing the pass a couple laps later. Bromley’s strong run started to go up in smoke on Lap 22 with a trail being seen behind the javelin.
With 25 laps on the board, Walters led Zardo, Beatty, Balson, Bromley, and Book. Book would challenge Bromley for fifth on Lap 28, getting the spot a lap later.
Tom Walters led the rest of the way en route to scoring the checkered flag in the feature fueled by EPIC Racewear, followed by Bill Zardo Sr., Donny Beatty, Amanda Balson, and Steve Book. Jaeger McMaster placed sixth, followed by Adrian Foster, Jeremy Taggert, Nick Clarke, Rob Bromley, Marty Monette, and Jeremy McLean.
Jerry Broom placed 11th, followed by Connor Ellis, Gary Hannah, Sean Walker, Ryan Cowan, Jim Backwell, Paul Senior, Paul Bogensberger Jr., and Coltin Everingham.
