KITCHENER, ON- Late Model veteran Tim Ellis will have one final opportunity for a fourth Sauble Speedway feature win this evening, as ‘the Beach’ hosts its September 5th “Championship Night” to bid farewell to the 2015 season.
“I can’t think of a better way to end our season than to win the feature on Championship Night,” says Ellis. “We’ve had a great car this season, and I feel like I owe it to this team to leave 2015 in victory lane”
Ellis tallied a podium finish in his most recent appearance at Sauble, and credits a wide variance of setup experiments that have kept his No. 2 in the hunt all season long.
“We’ve been experimenting with a few different setups over the last few weeks. Some have been really good and some have needed a little bit of massaging,” explains the well-spoken veteran.
“Last Saturday, we took a swing at the car after practice and it was just evil for qualifying. But, once we went back to something a little more traditional, the car woke right up for the feature. We’ll likely use that as our baseline tonight”
After starting deep in the field for several weeks, the Kitchener, ON veteran is quick to explain just how important starting position is at the tight quarter-mile.
“Starting position means the world here. There are nights where we’ve most certainly had the fastest car but couldn’t get to the front in time to make a play for the lead”
“Hopefully tonight we can get a decent start, and have a couple of cautions fall our way early,” continues Ellis. “When it comes down to it, I think we can race alongside of any car on the property. But, sometimes it’s more important to be lucky than good”
Regardless of what happens in the season finale, Ellis made sure to explain just how grateful he is to have returned for 2015.
“We’ve had a fantastic season,” smiles the fan favourite. “I can, without question, say that I’m thrilled that we made the decision to come back”
“The guys on this roster are incredibly tough, and finding new ways to keep up with them has been a fantastic way to spend a summer. Brian [MacDonald] truly is a genius, and I’m looking forward to what he can do with us tonight. I know that every team in the pits is going to say they want this feature win tonight – so our job is going to be to want it a little bit more.”
