KINCARDINE, ON- Sauble Speedway Rookie of the Year contender Kevin Bridge will make his final Thunder Car appearance of the season tonight, and will look to work his way to a podium finish in the 2015 championship points standings.
“Even with all of the issues we’ve worked through this season, I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything,” smiles Bridge when asked about his somewhat tumultuous 2015 campaign. “I’ve wanted to run with the Thunder Car division for as long as I’ve been coming to the speedway and, despite some pretty long odds, we made that happen all season long”
Despite a myriad of early-season mechanical issues, Bridge’s family-run effort has persevered through it all, and currently sites 4th in the championship points – a single marker removed from the top-3.
“I think the fact that we’re still in the running for a top-3 in the points is a testament to just how hard we’ve worked on this car,” offers the blue-collar freshman. “No matter what seemed to go wrong – or break – we weren’t content to just let the car sit on the trailer. We’ve been in the shop every night working on this thing to keep it in the hunt. And for that, I’m incredibly proud of this entire team”
The Kincardine, ON native would look to return to the top-5 in tonight’s feature, after a month of August that saw Bridge elevate his program to run alongside some of the top draws in the talent-laden division.
“A top-5 finish would most certainly have me walking away with a smile on my face,” says Bridge. “These nights don’t ever get any easier in this division, and something tells me that the finale will be the most intense night we’ve had so far”
“Not only do we want to get this car to the front to secure a top-3 finish in the points, but we’ll also be using it as an R&D session for next season,” continues the former Mini Stock standout. “We never stop learning with this car, and if we can pick up something tonight that will help us next season, I’ll be a happy man.”
