KITCHENER, ON- After a post-race penalty on August 1st removed him from contention in the Late Model points standings, veteran Tim Ellis says he is more motivated than ever to close his 2015 season with a Sauble Speedway win streak.
“It was an extended distance race, with a lot of time spent under caution, and we burned more fuel than we thought we had,” explains Ellis when asked about the post-race penalty for being light at the scales.
“It was a miscalculation, that’s all. We learned from it and moved on”
Now, with his chances of a Sauble championship hampered, Ellis will focus his attention solely on wheeling his familiar No. 2 to victory lane.
“At the time, it was obviously upsetting to get penalized, but when I look back on it they were doing me a favour in the long run,” says the veteran.
“We were starting to get wrapped up in the points standings, which is exactly what I told our team we weren’t going to do. Now, after the penalty, we’re not thinking about the championship. All we’re looking to do is win the last three races on the schedule”
As strong as Ellis has already been this season, the Kitchener, ON-based hotshoe insists his Brian MacDonald-led team still has some tricks up their sleeves.
“I feel as though, as strong as our car has been, we’re just scratching the surface,” smiles Ellis. “We can still find some more speed with this package, and that will be our job for tonight. Every other driver in the top-5 has stepped their game up, and we’ll need to do the same thing if we don’t want to be left behind”
“Let the points racers do the points racing. Our focus is on running the table for next three weeks. We want to finish the season with more feature wins than anyone else on the roster.”
