INNISFIL, ON- After weeks of working through setup troubles and disappointments, 15-year old Brandon McFerran returned to the top of the heap in the Sunset Speedway Mini Stock division, sweeping the May 31st program for his first victory of 2014.

“This feels incredible, I knew we had a program that could get us to the front”, exclaimed an overjoyed McFerran. “We’ve put so many hours into this car. I knew it was coming. I knew we just had to stay positive, and here we are”

McFerran took the lead early in the 25-lap event, after a back and forth battle with fellow rising star Billy Melenhorst.

“I give Billy all the credit in the world”, said McFerran. “He’s a guy that I’ll race with side-by-side any day of the week. That battle for the lead was a tonne of fun. We were just fortunate enough to come out on the winning side of it”

After taking the lead, ‘The Astronaut’ would turn back a number of late-race charges, holding on for his first win of the 2014 season.

“You don’t really appreciate a win until you have a few frustrating weeks”, offered McFerran. “For a while, it felt like there was a cloud over our team. No matter what we did, we just couldn’t get the car to respond the way we wanted to”

“But I can’t possibly thank my Dad and the rest of this team enough”, continued the 15-year old. “These guys work night and day on this car. My dad told us he wasn’t going to quit until we got back to victory lane. That man is my hero”

“This was the best car I’ve ever had at Sunset”, beamed McFerran, in closing. “If I could have a car this good for the rest of the season, I’d be the happiest guy in the pit area. Now that we’ve got a win under our belt, I can’t wait to see what we can do with this program”

Brandon McFerran’s efforts are made possible thanks to support from Peter D. Laird Transport, Road Ranger, Fast Eddie Racewear, East End Car Wash, Creative Edge Graphics, Finish Line Painting & Restoration, DS McClure Farms, EPIC Racewear by OnePromo.ca and AMD Electric.

Fans can follow Brandon on Twitter @BrandonMcFerran as he prepares to return to action this Saturday, June 7th at Sunset Speedway.
