INNISFIL, ON- Even though his May 31st appearance was limited to just 3 laps of competition in the 50-lap Limited Late Model ‘Super Series’ feature, Thayne Hallyburton left Sunset Speedway with a smile on his face.
“The car’s a lot better. We’re making gains every night”, smiled Hallyburton. “We were getting off the corner nicely. We changed some things with the trailing arms this week, and it’s definitely better”
The Sunset freshman was in contention all evening, turning in strong appearances in both rounds of qualifying prior to his short-lived outing in the A Main – in which a fellow competitor blew a tire and sent Hallyburton’s No. 14 into the turn-2 retaining wall.
“We were able to work our way into the Top Qualifiers Dash tonight, which was excellent”, said Hallyburton. “We worked through some brake issues in the ‘Dash’, then made our way from 8th to 4th in our 3 laps on the track in the feature”
“It’s tough to have your night cut short, any way you look at it, but the fact that we’re making improvements is absolutely a positive. My guys work awfully hard on this car, it’s awesome to finally start seeing the fruits of our labour”
“We work on this car 5 nights a week”, explained Hallyburton. “I can’t say enough about my guys. This is like a fulltime job on top of your fulltime job. My brother [Travis] is a huge help, in addition to Shawn Veenstra, Chuck Kenney, Ben Lidstone, Ken Reynolds, Darrell Eacott and Steve Slaughter Jr. None of this would be possible without those guys”
‘The Hillsdale Hurricane’ made sure to note that the team will work through Sunset’s off-night on June 7th, in order to be prepared when the division returns to action.
“I’m not a huge fan of nights off”, admitted Hallyburton. “So we’re gonna put some time in on this car and then come out and practice this weekend to get faster”
Thayne – alongside younger brother Travis – and the Hallyburton Brothers Racing team will be back on track at Sunset Speedway on Saturday, June 14th.
Thayne Hallyburton’s efforts would not be possible without support from Hillsdale Service Centre and Thompson Enterprises. Additional packages are still available.
Fans can keep up with Thayne on Twitter @THallyburton and be sure to visit the brand new Hallyburton Brothers Racing page on Facebook.
