SAUBLE BEACH, ON- In just his first career Sauble Speedway Ltd. Late Model start, Thayne Hallyburton registered a 14th place finish, after combating an ill-handling racecar through the entirety of the rain-shortened first round of the Saube vs. Sunset ‘Home and Home Series’.
“This car was absolutely evil in the feature”, laughed Hallyburton post-race. “We haven’t raced here in 5 years, and we’ve never raced a Late Model here, so a lot of our setup was trial and error”
“We had a strong car in the heat races, but we went the wrong way in our pre-race adjustments for the feature, and ended up fighting the handling from the first corner of the first lap”
‘The Hillsdale Hurricane’ admitted the team’s relative inexperience at the quarter-mile bullring left them guessing as they prepared for the 50-lap A Main.
“We loosened the car up – expecting the track to tighten up the same way Sunset, Barrie and Peterborough do – and it sank us”, offered Hallyburton. “The track loosened up, and we were absolutely fighting this car every lap”
“Considering how much of a handful this car was, and how many fast cars were here tonight, I’m happy with a top-15 finish”
Following Thayne’s trip to Sauble, the Hallyburton Brothers Racing team will return to Sunset Speedway on July 19th for a 50-lap ‘Fan Appreciation Night’ event. The Hillsdale Service Centre No. 14 will enter the evening situated just outside of the top-10 in Ltd. Late Model points.
“Now that we’re into the second half of the schedule, we’re really hoping to knock down some top-5s”, said Hallyburton. “We’ve had some rough nights this season, but by and large I think our program is advancing nicely. We’re getting a handle on this new car, and there’s no question in my mind that we can put this Port City by Baker car at the front”
Thayne Hallyburton will compete this weekend with support from Thompson Enterprises and Hillsdale Service Centre.
