SAUBLE BEACH, ON- Third-generation driver Billy Zardo made an impressive return to Sauble Speedway on July 12th, registering an 11th place finish in the opening round of the Sauble vs. Sunset ‘Home and Home Series’.
The Brampton, ON driver earned a runner-up finish in his qualifying heat race, and ran within the top-10 for the bulk of the 50-lap A Main.
“It took a few practice laps to remember how to get around here. It’s definitely one of the more difficult speedways we go to”, offered Zardo.
“This place is hammer down, but it’s a ‘built motor track’. We gave up a tonne of power against some of these guys. We had a great handling car, and we rolled the center beautifully, but we just couldn’t find the drive off that we needed”
Though he missed the top-10 by a single position, Zardo is confident for the back half of the ‘Home and Home Series’, scheduled for Sunset Speedway on July 26th.
“For just our second ever Late Model race at Sauble, I think we carried ourselves well”, said the well-spoken youngster.
“I’m excited for Round 2, at Sunset. The Sauble drivers are top tier, and it’s a blast racing with them, I can’t wait to welcome them to our neck of the woods. On home turf, there’s no reason we can’t make a run at a top-5”
After a disastrous start to the 2014 season, Zardo is eager to build on his recent improvements.
“It’s easy to shrug off an 11th place finish as though it doesn’t mean anything. But, when you look at how we struggling at the beginning of the year, an 11th place finish on the road is something to smile at. We’re definitely turning a corner, and I sincerely believe we can start rolling with this momentum”
Billy will return to action this Saturday, July 19th for a 50-lap Sunset Speedway Super Series event. For gate times and ticket prices, visit www.SunsetSpeedway.ca.
The entire ‘Z Team’ would like to thank Holmes On Homes, National Exhaust, Better Contracting and Hassell Automotive for their continued support.
