BOWMANVILLE, ON – On September 8, Beeton, ON’s Dwight Brown secured the 2012 Techtonix Open Wheeled Modified championship at the Speedway of Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. His position atop the leaderboard over longtime, friendly rival Darren Kearnan was assured when rain washed out the last scheduled feature race on the six-event schedule. Entering the final night of competition separated by a mere 12 points, Brown in his #2 Bourque Transmission Chevy and Kearnan (#46 TTR Transport Mod) exchanged heat race victories, but their season would end before Saturday’s 13 car Techtonix field could take the green flag for the 20 lap season finale.

Brown accepted his seventh career Modified title in the sodden CTMP Speedway pits. “I’ve always been successful in this car, it’s a lot of fun to drive,” commented the new champion. The Techtonix officials have put a lot of time and effort into this series, it’s nice to see it so solidly on its feet.”

Over the season’s previous five races, Brown had scored four feature wins to Kearnan’s single victory, although Kearnan’s three runner-up results were a testament to his diligence.

The battle for third place in the yearend standings was fought out between four drivers with the driving duo of Brad Stevenson and Brian Strawn (#77) ultimately claiming the spot by nine points over Rob Warnes, veteran Bill Pickford (#61) rounding out the top five in the final tally.

Concluded Brown, “A lot of the time it was just between Darren and me. But as the season went on, some of the guys who I had not expected to see around me got a whole lot faster. It made for some interesting racing.”
