STE AGATHE, QC – Can-Jam Motorsports Driver Crazy Leo Urlichich and Co-Driver Carl Williamson suffered through a number of setbacks on this edition of the Rallye Defi but managed to put together another good performance finishing third.
This was the fourth round of the Canadian Rally Championship and was looking to be a breakout event for Leo / Williamson with a chance to go head to head with WRC superstar Ken Block entered along with Canadian stars Antoine L’Estage and Pat Richard.
The Crazy Leo / Carl Williamson duo were stung almost immediately with mechanical troubles including damaged driveline components and losing an engine. The Can-Jam team worked all night in the pouring rain to be ready for day two but shifter problems and fogging issues that reduced visibility made defending the 3rd place a miraculous drive and has kept the team close in the hunt for the national title.
Ken Block and Alex Gensomino emerged the winners with Antoine L’Estage and Nathalie Richard battling their own issues to finish second.
Shortly after the event Leo commented, “We were looking forward the battle with Ken, Pat and Antoine, but unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be due to reliability. A very difficult event for us in terms of having to drive around problems, but we’ve pushed 100% on every metre of the rally and a lot of awesome fans were able to witness that. The Can-Jam Motorsports boys performed an overnight miracle yet again. I would also like to say “Great job” by the organizers of Rallye Defi in getting new stages, they are a blast.”
Co-Driver Carl Williamson said, “Rallye Defi has some great stages and as ever, the army of Quebec rally fans made the rally for me. Unfortunately, some mechanical issues hampered our progress, so 3rd overall on the podium with Block/Gelsomino and L’Estage/Richard was a great achievement for us. It was also a great testament to the boys at Can-Jam Motorsports who changed an engine on the Friday night so we could continue.”
Final Results
1. Block / Gelsomino
2. L’Estage / Richard
3. Crazy Leo / Williamson
