@PtboSpeedway • Peterborough, ON (June 24)- There will be no racing Saturday, June 27 at Peterborough Speedway.

This weekend, the action shifts to Sunday, June 28th for the Chase for the Colours Pole Qualifying Event – presented by Lucas Oil Products – with the afternoon’s first green flag at 2:30.

To say the Autumn Colours Classic is a major league motorsports attraction would be the ultimate understatement. In its 23rd year of existence, the three day extravaganza – staged October 9, 10 and 11 – on Canada’s Toughest 1/3-Mile Paved Oval is the event every short track racer in the province wants to add to their resume.

With close to 300 entries, spread over almost 10 divisions, teams start doing their homework early in the year in an effort to be named the next Autumn Colours Classic champion. Local racer or invader, Peterborough Speedway owner/promoter J.P. Josiasse says it’s all about putting your best effort forward.

“Our home track regulars crave the chance to capture the winner’s hardware in front of our regular fan base,” said Josiasse. “With tracks from one end of the region to the other represented, this show is all about competition and putting together your strongest performance of the season. Each year, we have some first time runners taking a crack at things, alongside some of the most experienced short track racers in the industry.”

Sunday, June 28, the Chase for the Colours Pole Qualifier is the first of a pair of special shows that will help determine the starting order for what is known as the Super Bowl of Stock Car Racing. Late Model teams – competing under the Earl Ireland Auto Sales banner – will run a 75 lap main event. Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Mini Stock and Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car drivers will battle for 25, 30 and 40 laps respectively. The first and second place finishers in each feature race earn the front row Autumn Colours Classic starting spots for the Thanksgiving Weekend event.

In 2014, Nick Goetz, Terry Hubbard, Tyler Junkin and Ken Grubb claimed the ‘Chase’ checkered flags in the Late Model, 4Fun, Mini Stock and Thunder Car ‘A’ main events. In the annual Autumn Colours Classic headline dance, they finished 13th, second, second and 22nd respectively.

The Chase for the Colours pole qualifying show – presented by Lucas Oil Products – is one of the most popular single day events on Peterborough Speedway’s annual schedule.  Pit gates for the Sunday, June 28th program open at 11:00, with the spectator areas unlocked at 1:00 and the day’s first green flag at 2:30.
