Barrie, Ont. September 8, 2013. Incidents with other drivers continue to plague Ron Beauchamp Jr., but he still managed to earn a top 10 finish on Sunday at the Hudco Electric Supply 300.
The #60 Mopar/Exide/Pennzoil Dodge ran well during practice on Saturday, only requiring slight adjustments to improve the existing set up. The team was optimistic for qualifying, but they were forced to wait until Sunday, as a rain delay postponed the main event for the next day.
Sunny skies returned for Sunday, and the team’s confidence carried over to qualifying where #60 earned a fifth place start for the race.
“The car felt awesome, I even got a little loose coming out of four but put up a really good qualifying lap,” Beauchamp said.
When the race kicked off, the vehicle continued to run strong, despite a little tightness the crew worked out during scheduled pit stops. #60 ran comfortably in the top 10 all day, running as high as fourth place.
Unfortunately, Beauchamp’s hard work to maintain his positioning throughout the day was thwarted in the final lap of the race. A late caution set up a green/ white/ checker finish, and on the final lap, #60 was punted and spun by #39.
Beauchamp was able to dust himself off, get turned back around and finish ninth.
“I don’t know what he’s thinking. I’m getting pounded from behind but I’ve got cars right in front of me. I’m not going to wreck a guy to gain a position,” Beauchamp said after the race. “This is really frustrating, it’s happened to us so often this year, I feel bad for all our supporters, on our way to a solid result and get turned.”
After Sunday’s race, Beauchamp ranks tenth in the season standings, with a cumulative 338 points.
