September 8, 2013- Castrol Edge Dodge driver DJ Kennington scored another podium finish at Barrie Speedway in round number eleven of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series this on Sunday afternoon. Kennington showed his skill and quickness throughout the 300 lap race and his runner up finish also help him extend his lead in the overall championship.
The race was scheduled to be run Saturday evening at Barrie Speedway but following the afternoon practice persistent showers forced the postponement until Sunday. Kennington posted a fast qualifying lap and put the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge on the provisional pole. He would settle for the third quickest time and start the feature event on the inside of Row Two.
The #17 Castrol Edge Dodge driver comfortably ran up near the front of the field all afternoon and lead the race on three separate occasions.
“I felt really confident of how the car would perform before the race” said Kennington.
As the race progressed Kennington would make his scheduled pit stops for fuel and tires and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team would also make adjustments always looking to gain that extra edge.
Throughout the final third of the race Kennington waged a great battle with the other frontrunners as they pushed aggressively for the top spot.
“It was tough, hard racing” he explained. “It’s how you have to run here to be successful, and each of us wanted the win” he added.
A late race caution would set up a green, white, checker run to the finish. Kennington pushed the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge as hard as he dared but came up one spot short of the victory crossing the finish line second. Still, he knew it was a successful afternoon.
“We sure wanted to pick up another win here but at the same time I had to think about the points. I was pushing pretty hard but I wasn’t going to do anything to risk another good finish” he stated.
After eleven events DJ Kennington leads the overall championship by five points heading into the final race of the season at Kawartha Speedway near Peterborough, ON on Saturday September 21st.
“We picked up a couple points today and now we’re heading to Kawartha looking to win that one and win a championship” said Kennington.
