July 5, 2013- Team Canada Scholarship announces the first four finalists, drivers who will be competing for one of the two seats available for this year’s program. The two drivers who will be selected to represent Canada at this year’s Formula Ford Festival will come from the two levels of junior open wheel racing.
The first selected group have been chosen from the USF2000 series and the second group of finalists will be chosen from the F1600 level, specifically, the Toyo Tires F1600 Championship and the Formula Tour 1600 Series.
The four drivers selected as finalists are: Garrett Grist, Scott Hargrove, Jesse Lazare, and Stefan Rzadzinski. Remarkably all four drivers currently sit in the top six in points and all have made the podium at one point during the opening five rounds.
“We are very proud to announce the first four finalists and we know that any one of them has the ability to win this fall at Brands Hatch at the Formula Ford Festival.” comments Team Canada founder Brian Graham. ” This is certainly the deepest pool of talent at this level we have seen in many years. We will be watching them all closely at the upcoming Toronto event and will sit down with each of them over the course of the weekend to get to know them a little better.”
The Team Canada Scholarship enters their third year and is thankful for the support of sponsors and donations that help to fund the program.
“It is a year round search for support and we are very fortunate to have some great backing from a group of companies and individuals who believe in what we are doing and the program itself. Two of the larger contributors, Grote Manufacturing and The Racers Guild of Canada are back with us for a third year and are the building blocks for us to work from. The British Auto Racing Club (BARC) has come on board and is also the club that provides the support system for the Honda Indy event in Toronto since its inception. Door Doctor based out of Montreal also has returned as a supporter along with Rod End Mechanical, Hallman Construction, The Formula Tour 1600 Series, Bollenbach Insurance, and RMB Inc. We are working on firming up our other returning supporters, as well as always looking for new partners.” comments Brian Graham.
The selection of the finalists from the F1600 category will be made in the coming weeks. The focus right now will be on the USF2000 drivers at the upcoming, much anticipated Honda Indy Car event on the streets of Toronto.
Congratulations to the finalists and good luck in Toronto!
