The flights are booked, hotel rooms reserved, rental car arranged, and all the details taken care of for the second trip to the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch. Team Canada Scholarship winner Garett Grist is set to arrive Monday morning at the famed circuit with Team Canada co-founder Brian Graham.
The pair worked together for the first time last week with a test at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park running a BGR Team Grote, Ford powered F1600 car with the Avon tires they will be using at Brands. A full day in the car saw Garett get reacquainted with the Ford power plant and also get some time on what is the spec tire in England. The test went very well and the mileage on the Avon’s was certainly helpful.
“The test was very helpful, the fact we ran the car as close to the UK specs as we could, will help us get up to speed quicker and be better prepared. This was the first time I worked with Garett and I can see how much he has grown in the past season as a driver. He was able to give us some very good feedback and certainly made the most of the day,” commented Brian Graham. “We are all very excited about the Festival and cannot wait to get there”
“I am very excited to be heading over to England to run with Cliff Dempsey Racing. The Formula Ford Festival is one of those events you want to race at some point in your career. And to be doing it as part of the Team Canada Scholarship is a real honour. We had a great test with BGR and that gave an opportunity to try out the Avon tire. I really like it a lot. I can’t wait to get in the car,” commented Garett Grist.
The duo will arrive Monday morning and once settled in to the hotel will get to the track and meet the Cliff Dempsey team. Monday will be all about getting on the local time clock and getting acquainted with the area that will be home for the week. Tuesday will be the seat fitting, getting the car set up for Garett and, of course, getting all our sponsors logos and graphics on the car. A track walk is always a great way to learn a new course and then get some rest for the Wednesday test day. The testing continues Thursday with official practice beginning Friday. Qualifying and heat races start on Saturday with the Semis and Final scheduled for Sunday.
Team Canada will be staying in touch with our supporters, friends, and fans throughout the week via our Facebook page and hope to update daily with the latest news and results.
