Sainte-Thérèse (QC), March 2, 2022)- Runner-Up in the Canadian F1600 series last year, Quebec driver Jean-Christophe Trahan will climb one more step in his young career as he makes his debut in the American F2000 championship, run by Formula Race Promotions.
« We spoke with several teams in the series and decided on the Global Racing Team, a relatively new team to the sport but also title winners last year with Trent Walko » mentioned Jean-Christophe Trahan. The driver, originally from Ste-Thérèse, then added: « the main resources are being put towards my start in this championship. Driving a Formula 2000 car, which is an open wheel with a wing and slick tires, is a new step in my career; I know I come with little experience but I’m confident I’ll progress quickly ».
The 2022 F2000 championship is comprised of seven events, each with two or three races, and Jean-Christophe Trahan can already confirm he will contest three of them. He will skip the first event, in one month’s time in South Carolina, then making his debut at Mid-Ohio at the end of April.
« It’s important to me to work with a team that already knows how to win in this series and has already shown that they can. I hope to compete in the most races possible but right now, we’re working on completing the budget. I think I can offer sponsors great visibility, particularly because I will be the only Quebecker and probably the lone Canadian to contest the 2022 championship. In addition, I believe in my potential and I’m confident I will quickly find myself in the front pack, even as a rookie in the series » highlighted Jean-Christophe Trahan.
Only one Quebec driver has successfully won the title in this very competitive Formula 2000 championship; Rémy Audette during the 2011 season.
For now, Jean-Christophe Trahan has agreed with the Global Racing Team that he’ll compete at Mid-Ohio (April 29th to May 1st), Alabama’s Barber Motorsports Park (May 20th to 22nd), and Summit Point in West Virginia (August 19th to 21st).
« I will debut in this series without having any private test sessions, just seat time in the simulator » explained Trahan, who added: « I want to improve after each session on the track and I’m confident I’ll get there. The team invited me to join the reigning champions and it’s a nice confidence boost. They want to continue to win and I want to get there with them ».
In addition to this new F2000 commitment in the United States, Jean-Christophe Trahan plans to return to Canadian F1600 for two events this season at the Grand Prix du Canada, on the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montréal (June 17th to 19th) and the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières (August 5th to 7th), where he claimed three podiums in three races last year, during his first time at the event!
« There’s something still missing from those two events. At the Grand Prix du Canada, I want to re-write my experience there from 2019 when I had an accident, and at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières where I finished in second place three times in 2021; I want to get at least one win there » confided Jean-Christophe.
For now the 2022 season is less full than it could be for the driver, whose pre-season work will focus on finding partners. « I really believe that this is a great programme, both competitively and for our sponsors, with goals of reaching the podium » concluded Jean-Christophe Trahan.
