(March 16, 2017)- This past weekend, OSCAAR officials were at the Motorama Custom Car and Motorsports Expo for the entire weekend, greeting fans and handing out schedules. Looking back on the busy three days, it’s easy to say the event was a success.
Throughout the weekend, many familiar faces as well as new stopped by the booth to say hi, and talk about the upcoming year. The familiar faces all spoke of the events that they look forward to attend this year, whether at Peterborough Speedway or Flamboro Speedway, or the exciting return to Kawartha Speedway. Meanwhile, the new faces spoke of interest in OSCAAR, curious to see what we’re all about in checking out the different cars and competition. If you go based on the show, it should be great crowds on a weekly basis.
There was also a lot of excitement surrounding OSCAAR’s newest division, the Hot Rod Series. D’arcy Gribbon’s No. 44 Dodge attracted attention from people every single day, with excitement in seeing the cars from yester-years return to the speedway this year. There was even additional comments surrounding the dirt event at Brighton Speedway this summer, as fans are intrigued by OSCAAR branching out.
Gribbon’s car wasn’t the only one to attract attention, though; fans stopped to take a closer look at A.J. Emm’s modified, as well as the pro midgets from Ted Greenwood and Rob Summers. For the Pro Midgets, the weekend was certainly a success with a new driver signing up to compete this year, as well as a couple others thinking of joining the fray.
OSCAAR also had their notable moments on the Johnsonville Stage throughout the event, too.
Series president Dave Gainforth took part in the Short Track Promoters Panel to discuss the series’ plans for the year, as well as his take on some of the hot topics in racing from budget to getting kids out to the track.
Also, three of last year’s four series champions were in attendance – J.R. Fitzpatrick, Gary McLean and Greenwood – to be honored for their accomplishments as part of the Short Track Night of Champions.
Be sure to stop by the OSCAAR facebook page and instagram account to see highlights from the weekend. We’ll also have some more articles on the website from the series of events.
With everybody thinking on a positive note towards the season, it certainly promises to be a great year of racing.
