VALLEE-JONCTION, QC (June 30, 2019)- Sun Peaks, BC racer Jason White continues toward his 100th NASCAR Pinty’s Series event in his #21 Powder Ventures Excavating Dodge and this past weekend during round three of the 2019 season at the Autodrome Chaudière in Vallee Jonction, Quebec was poised for an outstanding finish.
Regrettably late race contact would take away that opportunity.
It was a challenging day to begin right from the start for the #21 Powder Ventures Excavating Dodge team. During the afternoon practice session White sensed an issue with the car.
“The clutch was slipping during practice and it wasn’t going to get better itself” White said dryly. “The team went to work and changed transmissions, however it meant they missed qualifying and would start at the back of the field.”
Rain showers in the area of the speedway threatened so all drivers were up on the wheel charging for every position right from the start of the 300-lap event. That included White. In the early going Jason moved the #21 Powder Ventures Dodge forward in the field.
“Starting at the back wasn’t ideal, but I just tried to keep moving forward and the car felt really good again this week” said White.
As the race reached the midway point the yellow flag flew for a competition caution stopping the race so teams could add fuel, change tires and make adjustments.
“The changes we made at the break helped us even more” said White, “the car was even better”.
As the laps ticked down in the back half of the race White had quietly moved the #21 Powder Ventures Dodge into the top ten of the field and was in a great position for the end of the race. As he tried to work his way around another competitor going from the high side to the low groove White touched the outside wall. Sometimes referred to as the green monster, the wall grabbed hold of the car and he cut down his right front tire.
“I got a little too aggressive because I was frustrated, and it burned us” summed up White.
From that point it was about salvaging whatever finish they could, White brought the #21 Powder Ventures Dodge home 13th.
“I’m really upset with myself, so much of racing is mental and I got impatient today, it won’t happen again. We were in line for a great result, the car was a rocket after the break. It’s so great to work with crew chief Larry Jackson and this group at CBRT. I can’t wait to get to Toronto to show what we can do. Saskatoon is going to be special too”.
Jason White and the #21 Powder Ventures Excavating team return to action Saturday July 13that Exhibition Place in Toronto as part of the Toronto Indy weekend.
