Nine-time Delaware Speedway FT Garage Late Model Champion Steve Robblee (#28) of Dorchester is set to return to full-time Delaware Speedway competition this Friday after receiving a clean bill of health. After 27 years of competition, Robblee took a leave of absence from racing in the 2011 season after being diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. He was cleared to resume competition earlier this month and will run in the first event of the season this Friday. The team released a brief official statement Wednesday Afternoon:

Steve Robblee will return to the Late Model ranks on Friday May 25th at Delaware Speedway after taking last year off. He will be driving his favorite car -“The War Machine” out of the ABBY Motorsports shops of Gerry Findlay. This is the same car his son Matt drove to a fourth place finish in the premier class last season.

The Dorchester, ON veteran will return to the London, ON half-mile with support from Big Box Mobile, TVAN Excavating, Federated Insurance, Edward Fuels, and Manning Collision & Paintworks. The team has begun final preparations for the 2012 season which will include some touring to other tracks in addition to a fulltime Delaware Speedway schedule.

The season gets underway this Friday, May 25 at 8:00 pm with the Pre-Season Shootout $10 admission special, part of opening weekend. The track will also be open on Saturday afternoon for the GAW Recycling Enduro & Bone Stock races. Tickets are available online or at the gate the day of the event.
