Spencer Lewis offers ‘The Weekend In Review’ from Some of Ontario’s Paved Short Tracks

Delaware Speedway:
2-time championship runner-up Matt Pritiko won his first Late Model feature of the season on Friday night at Delaware Speedway. The London, ON driver snatched the lead early, and survived a number of late-race restarts to hold off Week 3 winner Jay Doerr and current point leader Jamie Cox.
Kenny McNicol won the Super Stock portion of the evening, capturing the division point standings lead in the process, with rookie Shae Gemmell and defending champion Jeff Showler completing the top-3.
June 15th
Canadian Tire Motorsports Park:
Defending Limited Late Model champion Kyle Donaldson enjoyed his second straight CTMP victory on June 15th, taking the lead on lap-5 and never looking back. ‘Wheely’ was followed across the stripe by Week 2 winner Darren Kearnan, Kawartha Speedway transplant Linc Brown, multi-time champion Mark Gordon and former ACT Tour standout ‘Dynamite’ Derek Lynch.
John Baker Jr. earned his first win of the season in the speedway’s Thunder Car division, leading Bob Kish, ‘The Alderville Iceman’ Howie Crowe, Ken Donaldson Jr. and Steve Mayhew to the line.
Dwight Brown won the Ontario Modified Racing Series feature and Jeff Vanderbelt went to victory lane in the Pure Stock class.
Flamboro Speedway:
2-time Flamboro Speedway champion Brad Collison earned his first Thunder Car feature win of the 2013 season, besting opening night winner Mark Burbridge and point leader Kevin Gallant for the victory.
2012 champion Billy Schwartzenburg collected another win in Mini Stock competition and Craig Shaver took top honours in the Pro-4 Modified division.
Sauble Speedway:
Defending Ltd. Late Model champion Scott McTeer won his first feature of the season, holding off 3-time victor Jason Parker for the win.
Kevin Bridge won the Mini Stock event and Dalen Martin claimed the top spot in the Junior Late Model class.
Sunset Speedway:
Jason ‘Bam Bam’ Witty notched his 2nd straight victory of the season on Saturday, starting from the inside pole position, Witty led every single lap in dominating fashion to head back to victory lane.
In Super Stock action, point leader Randy ‘The Rocket’ Rusnell captured his 5th win in 6 starts, while Warren Paxton added his 4th feature victory of the season in the Mini Stock division.
Varney Speedway Motorplex:
Championship contender Tim Schreinert earned his 2nd Limited Late Model division victory of the season at VSM on June 15th.
Canadian Vintage Modifieds:
CVM legend Steve Lyons won June 15th’s event at Flamboro Speedway. The veteran held off Joe Atkinson and Steve Trendell to earn his 2nd win of the season.
Lucas Oil TQ Can-Am Midgets:
Mississauga, ON native Mack Deman earned his first win of 2013 at Peterborough Speedway. Starting 3rd on the grid, Deman took the lead on lap-10 and held on for the feature triumph. Barry Dunn, Todd Creswell, Adrian Stahle and Rob Neely completed the race’s top-5.
OSCAAR Modified Tour:
Conn, ON’s Brent McLean earned his 3rd career OSCAAR Modified Tour feature win, in Round 2 of the 2013 season at Barrie Speedway on Saturday. For McLean, it was his first career trip to Barrie’s victory lane, holding off defending tour champion Gary McLean for the honor. Modified sophomore Brad Pearsall, making his 2013 debut, completed the podium, followed by David McCullough and ‘The New Hamburg Nightmare’ Matt Barton.
OSCAAR Super Late Model Tour:
Brandon Watson led every single lap of the OSCAAR tour event at Barrie Speedway on June 15th, holding off a torrid charge from former champion Derrick Tiemersma in the race’s dying laps. With back to back victories at Sunset and Barrie, the defending champion has now led all 100-laps of competition through the early portion of the 2013 campaign. Andrew Gresel, debuting a brand new Hamke-built chassis, earned a top-3, followed by 4-time tour champion Glenn Watson and Rookie of the Year contender Kevin Cornelius.
June 16th
Sunset Speedway:
Jason ‘Bam Bam’ Witty survived a lap-72 red flag involving leaders Dwayne Baker, Tom Walters and Chris Morrow, winning his first career Sunset 75-lap feature event. The ‘Father’s Day 75’ event was cut short by 3 laps when a thundershower moved into the area shortly after the red flag was displayed. Barrie Speedway point leader Gord Shepherd earned a runner-up finish, while Taylor Holdaway was credited with 3rd.
Matt Bentley won the 50-lap Super Stock invitational event, while Billy Schwartzenburg took top honours in the 30-lap Mini Stock A-Main.
