THE WEEKEND AHEAD…After losing Week 1 of their 2012 season to Mother Nature, Fraserville’s Kawartha Speedway will see action for the first time this year on June 15th. Defending track champion – and winningest driver in Kawartha history – ‘Old School’ Dan McHattie will lead the NAPA Auto Parts Late Models into their season-opening 100-lap event. The Cavan, ON veteran will be joined by fellow Kawartha regulars Dwight Brown, Bryan Mercer and Flyin’ Ryan Kimball along with former Rookie of the Year Brandon Watson. The card also features the speedway’s Thunder Car and Mini Stock divisions, with action slated to kick off at 7:00 pm sharp.
Delaware Speedway will host the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup June 15th, in what will be the series’ 2nd event of 2012. London, ON native – and Delaware Speedway Late Model regular – Jay Doerr won the season opener for the LOSC tour at Varney Motor Speedway on May 20th, and will look to keep his perfect record intact on his home turf. The event will also mark the LOSC debut of longtime Delaware Super Stock competitor ‘Hollywood’ Darrell Lake. The 100-lap feature will be accompanied by the Delaware Super Stock and Truck divisions. Qualifying will begin at 7:15pm, all details are available at www.DelawareSpeedway.com
The OSCAAR Super Late Model and OSCAAR Modified tours will travel to Barrie Speedway this Saturday June 16th for Round 2 of their 2012 season. The tri-oval’s tight confines will make for some interesting close quarter combat, as longtime Barrie regulars Glenn and Brandon Watson will return to familiar territory, bringing with them fellow tour front-runners including George Wilson, Jesse Kennedy, Rob Clarke and Derrick Tiemersma. The event is also expected to mark the 2012 debut of Shawn Chenoweth and Dave Taylor. The Modified portion of the event will mark the first time the open-wheeled ground pounders have returned to Barrie since its re-configuration in 2004. Modified ace Gary McLean will look to go 2-for-2 in 2012, after an impressive showing in the tour’s debut event at Sunset Speedway on May 20th.
Sunset Speedway will play host to Round 2 of the lauded McColl Racing Enterprises Pro Series on Sunday June 17th. The first round saw Sunset regular Stompin’ Tom Walters best an impressive field of 26 entrants for his first win of 2012. A number of Late Model front runners including Walters, Mike Bentley, Jason Shaw, Chris Morrow, Jamie Cox, Jason Parker and Jesse Kennedy have already confirmed they will be in attendance for the 75-lap event. The Super Stock and Mini Stock divisions will join the Late Models on the card for a 4:00pm start. Details can be found at www.SunsetSpeedway.ca
