FREDERICTON, NB – Dave O’Blenis got off to a great SpeedWeekend start by taking the checkered flag in the Coastal Blending and Packaging Sportsman 150 at Speedway 660. O’Blenis battled a head cold all day, but when it came time to race he drove his Burger King Toyota Camry to Victory Lane.
”What an awesome run we had tonight, this team worked hard all day while I stayed in the hauler trying to deal with this bloody head cold’ said O’Blenis. ”As much as I want to celebrate this victory, I’ve got to head home, get a good night’s sleep and get ready for tomorrow’s Auto Value 250.”
O’Blenis, the 2012 A.L. Gullison Disaster Kleenup Pro Stock champion at Speedway 660, won the race over Glyn Nott and Steve Halpin who finished second and third. Ken MacKenzie, winner of this year’s Martins Home Heat Firecracker 150, finished fourth, while Calvin Rankin came home fifth.
‘ ‘We had a strong car tonight but we were no match for Dave OBlenis said Glyn Nott. He was incredible on those restarts and we just didnt have anything for him, but I sure am proud of this race team and pretty proud to come home second. ‘ ‘
OBlenis and Halpin are two of four drivers entered in both the Coastal Blending and Packaging 150 and Auto Value 250 this weekend. Tomorrow Dave OBlenis, who finished 2nd in last years Auto Value 250 will attempt to become the first driver to win both of SpeedWeekends big races.
Other Speedway 660 action saw Tyler Seveck win the the Fredericton Jewellers four cylinder feature. Seveck finished ahead of second place Randy Campbell and third place Justin Cole.
