The schedule for the seventeenth season of competition is now set for the Southern Ontario Sprints (SOS). The tour will take the SOS across Ontario and into Quebec this summer with stops at Autodrome Granby, Brighton Speedway, Ohsweken Speedway and South Buxton Raceway. As well, the SOS continues the tradition as an affiliate sanctioning body for the 8th annual Canadian Sprint Car Nationals.
The season will open for the first time at Autodrome Granby in Granby, Quebec. The Can-am Sprint Car Challenge will be a big two day event, Friday May 11th and 12th, with $5,000 on the line for the Saturday night feature. This will be a co-sanctioned event with ESS and PST and the SOS will be there to help fend off the American invaders.
With the teams tuned up after the off season, Round 2 will lock it into gear at Brighton Speedway Saturday, May 19th on the May holiday long weekend with a rain date of Sunday the 20th available if required.
Summertime action will start to heat up on Saturday June 16th at Brighton Speedway when the SOS will return to the speedway by the lake.
The next events on the 2012 SOS schedule will be special back to back nights of action. Working with Ohsweken Speedway and South Buxton Raceway, the SOS will once again co-sanction two double header race weekends in 2012. Friday, June 22nd will see the SOS at Ohsweken Speedway and Saturday, June 23rd will see the tour head west down the
401 to South Buxton Raceway. Both nights of racing will see the SOS teams competing against teams from PST and teams that race weekly at Ohsweken.
The SOS, in partnership with Brighton Speedway, is pleased to announce The “SOS Summer Showdown” Saturday, July 14th at Brighton Speedway.
$2,500 will be waiting in victory lane as part of the largest purse ever presented by the SOS. The runner up will take home $1,000 and 3rd place will pay $600. Up to 25 drivers will start the feature to battle it out for 25 laps in the biggest showdown of the summer at Brighton Speedway.
August brings the SOS back to Brighton Speedway on Saturday, August 4th for a hot summer’s night of action before the second double header weekend at Ohsweken Speedway on Friday, August 17th and South Buxton Raceway on Saturday, August 18th.
Once again, the Southern Ontario Sprints points championship will be decided at Brighton Speedway as part of the Labour Day Classic weekend of events. A full night of racing will be run on Saturday September 1st including the “Dream Come True” Dash where one driver will get their first ever win in a Sprint Car. Sunday with be a full day of fun including a tailgate party, race car show and autograph session before the Championship is settled Sunday night, September 2nd.
The SOS was one of the original affiliate sanctioning bodies for the Canadian Sprint Car nationals and will continue that tradition for the eighth annual race at Ohsweken Speedway. The CSCN is the largest Sprint Car event in Canada. The Nationals attract some of the biggest names in
360 Sprint Car racing with last year’s winner Sam Hafertepe, Jr. coming all the way from Sunnyvale, Texas. This year’s CSCN will be held Friday, September 14th & Saturday, September 15th and will pay $12,000 to the winner.
