WINNIPEG, MB (June 10, 2013) – Chris Sorin proved that the #1 on his Lightning Sprint wasn’t just for show as he piloted his open wheel sprinter to victory and his first Northern Lightning Sprint Association win of the young racing season at Winnipeg’s Red River Co-op Speedway on Monday night.
Taking advantage of his front row starting spot beside pole sitter Edward Bell, Sorin quickly jumped to the lead going into the first turn and never looked back as he gradually distanced himself from the field.
Bell soon found himself in a battle for second with the 35W of Wally Butler. Butler finally made the pass for second on lap 4 and set his sights on a distant Chris Sorin.
Butler’s car was fast but Sorin had built up too much of a lead. At the mid-way mark of the feature, a yellow flag came out for the #43 sprint of Robert Livingstone which broke and stopped on the backstretch.
Wally Butler was right behind race leader Chris Sorin on the restart with Edward Bell in third. The green flag waved and it was Sorin who rocketed into turn one first with Butler in hot pursuit.
In the closing laps Sorin survived several attempts to pass by a surging Wally Butler, including a close call on the final turn of the final lap.
As the checkered flag waved, it was Chris Sorin picking up his first Northern Lighting Sprint Association win of the 2013 racing season.
Earlier in the evening, Wally Butler had his hands full and swapped leads with a determined Dylan Sabatini before making a pass with two laps remaining to win the Lightning Sprint’s lone heat race.
Rounding up the top 5 were Chris Sorin, Wally Butler, Edward Bell, Dylan Sabatini and Al Giesbrecht.
The next scheduled race for the NLSA at Red River Co-op Speedway will be Monday, June 17 at 7:30pm
