@sswracing • Halifax, NS. (September 23, 2015) – Scotia Speedworld will close its 28th season this Saturday at 2:00pm with the Weekly Racing Series Season Finale.  Six divisions will crown champions; the Coors Light Trucks, Chickenburger Lightning, Hydraulics Plus Bandit & Outlaw Bandoleros, Strictly Hydraulics Legends and the Dartmouth Dodge Sportsman. Grandstands will open at 12:00noon with racing action slated for 2:00pm.

The Hydraulics Plus Bandoleros will kick off the afternoon and Austin MacDonald (Pictou) is on a furious charge to the front of the Bandit point standings. Heading into the final race, MacDonald sits just eight points out of Josh Langille (Coldbrook) for the top spot. Langille has held down the point lead since winning the first race back in June, but MacDonald has made a strong case for the title by not finishing worse than second in feature action since July 10th.

In the Hydraulics Plus Bandolero Outlaw division, Wyatt McCulloch (Stewiacke) is in search of his first championship at the track as he holds a nine point lead over reigning titlist Braden Langille (Shubenacadie). Luke Ettinger (Kennetcook) is third in the standings following two wins in the last two races.

Dan Smith (Lower Sackville) will attempt to make history Saturday as the only driver to win four consecutive championships in the same division when he looks to lock up the Coors Light Trucks Championship. Smith has a comfortable 28 point lead on Matt Vaughan (Lake Fletcher), but is not mathematically out of the woods yet. Jason Fenton (Eastern Passage) won his fifth feature in this division last week and looks to lock down the most wins in the division on Saturday.

Jarrett Butcher (Porter’s Lake) is in search of his third track championship and first in the Strictly Hydraulics Legend division on Saturday. Butcher, a two-time Bandolero champion, has just a nine point lead on leading Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie Cory Hall of Jolicure, New Brunswick. Far from out of the hunt, Paul Goulden (Shelburne) sits just 20 points out of the lead. With the unpredictability of this class, anything can happen when the green flag drops Saturday.

Russell Smith Jr (Lakeside) set out at the start of the season with a goal to win the Dartmouth Dodge Sportsman championship and he is within one race of doing so. He has a comfortable 45 point advantage on the tight battle for second, which is led by Pete Miller (Kennetcook). Miller only has a 17 point cushion on fifth place Harry Ross White (Noel Road), while Phil Barkhouse Jr (Hammonds Plains) and Travis Roma (West Chezzetcook) also want a piece of second in the standings as they sit third and fourth, respectively, heading into the final 38-lap feature of the year.

Deven Smith’s (Lakeside) come from behind win in the Chickenburger Lightning division feature last Friday night kept his championship hopes alive. Smith will look to become the third different Smith Brother to capture the Four Cylinder title as he enters with a 38 point lead on Scott Thibodeau (Williamswood). The battle in this division will be for third as 2013 champion Marc MacMillan (Glenholme) holds a five point advantage on Darrell Sullivan (Harrietsfield) and only 12 points on fifth place Richard Patrick (Halifax).

The Chickenburger Thunder division capped off their season last week with brothers Matthew and Andrew Warren (White’s Lake) sharing the #31 Multi-tech Automotivie Civic and driving it to a championship in the class. They bested two-time champion Dave Matthews (Kennetcook) by a slim two points. Thomas Marshall (Beaver Bank) was crowned the Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie of the Year in the division.

Admission for the Weekly Racing Series Finale is $12.00 for adults; $2.00 for youth (8-15 years old). Children 7 and under are admitted for free. Tickets will be available at the gates on race day (cash only)
